MADDIE ROSE CAMPAIGN: GET INVOLVED WITH THE NEXT PHASE

The next stage of the Maddie Rose Campaign launches this month, and aims to further expand the scheme’s reach, in order to continue the work in opening up the building materials sector to more young people.

FROM ACCOUNTING TO architecture, design to development, sales to software, human resources to health & safety, there is a career within the building materials supply sector for anyone, no matter what their preference or skill-set. It’s just a case of them finding out where they fit.

Within merchanting, for example, selling, buying, marketing, engineering, design, product development, logistics, planning, warehouse management, human resources, finance, driving, information technology, customer service are all possible options for young people wanting to build their futures.

The Maddie Rose Campaign, spear-headed by the Construction Youth Trust, has spent the last year shining a spotlight on the wide variety of career choices for younger people in this sector. A pan-sector initiative which aims to highlight the huge variety of career options available in both merchanting and manufacturing. It was launched in memory of Maddie Hollamby, marketing executive for Keyline, who was committed to opening up the industry to encourage more young people to develop their careers as she was starting to do. To kick-start the Campaign, last year, September 22 was designated Maddies Day, where companies and individuals all across the building materials sector turned their logos, their social media and, in most cases, their outfits, yellow to raise the profile of the initiative. This September 22, the Campaign is encouraging the industry to do so again as it launches the next phase of the initiative. BMJ

• Contact your local schools to see if they would like to set something up or take part in careers events

• See if you have suitable Work Experience options, to allow young people to learn more about the opportunities available • Share any apprenticeship or employment opportunities you have with the CYT. • Download the packs and information on settting up sessions, or make a donation to support the Campaign at www.maddierosecampaign.org.uk/
