RAINWATER MANAGEMENT WAVIN BRINGS HOME

WATER SAVINGS Thanks to major investment, Wavin is now able to manufacture its latest surface water management offering in-house. Fiona Russell-Horne got a chance to see it all in action.

W

ith climate change meaning the UK is seeing weather patternsvarying more widely than ever before, flood

management has never been more important. Attenuation tanks have been around for some years, and water management specialist manufacturer Wavin has used investment from its Mexican parent company Orbia to develop the next generation of its offering. The tanks sit below the ground and store collected rainwater before allowing it to be released gradually, and in a controlled manner, back into the sewer system or the ground. The AquaCell NG system is designed with push-fit functionality, which means the units can easily connect together, creating stability without having to add clips or pegs or tools. Hand grips, and the light weight of the units also help to speed up the time it takes to install the units. There’s also a circular guide on top of each of the unit which helps the contractor to install them the right way round, further reducing delays. Because it’s a modular design the AquaCell NG is versatile enough to fit within a range of site configurations and still work. Two units can be interlocked to cope with more heavily trafficked areas.

Made from 100% recycled and 100%

recyclable plastic, AquaCell NG is a more sustainable option in a number of ways. Its super-stackable design saves space in transit, meaning fewer deliveries, less space taken-up on site, is quicker to unload and has an all- round lower carbon footprint. From the beginning of this year, AquaCell NG is being manufactured at Wavin’s Chippenham facility, part of an £8m investment into the south west base by the manufacturer’s parent company, Orbia. The state-of-the-art plant was officially opened earlier in the Summer by Mexican Ambassador Josefa González-Blanco, who said: “As a Mexican here in Chippenham, it’s both moving and fascinating to witness the impact of genuinely global collaboration. “I can only imagine the pride that the Wavin team must feel today, especially when you consider the important role this type of flood defence technology will play in the years to come.”

Mike Ward, territory director at Wavin UK

and Ireland, added: “We’ve had a fantastic response since we introduced the AquaCell NG , with sustainable drainage continuing to play a critical role in all new developments. That’s why it’s so important to be able to

Flash floods to boost sump pump sales

The wettest March on record for 40 years, flash floods causing widespread disruption throughout the early part of this Summer are just two reasons why pump manufacturer Wilo, is calling on its customers to consider a variety of approaches to flood and water management. Sump pumps are used to alleviate flooding in the first instance, and are fitted to mitigate rising groundwater from heavy rainfall that floods basements and cellars.

Andy Thompson, national sales manager at

Wilo UK, said: “Flooding is a torrid experience for many people up and down the UK. Given

the change in our climate, we must anticipate and prepare for more extreme rainfall events moving forward.

“Installers can expect to see more sump pump enquires and projects coming through because of these changes, so it is critical that they know how to complete these jobs, ensure they perform when required, and are futureproofed. Sump pumps aren’t necessarily complicated to install, but there are a few things to bear in mind, such as the installation method, the pump’s build and motor, flow rates and accessories.” Merchants, too, need to know about the

bring production of the technology to the UK, shoring up supply chains and ensuring we can meet this rising demand. It truly is a shining example of how our partnership with Orbia has led to significant investment into the south west, benefitting both the region as well as our UK-wide customer base.”

increasing requirement for sump pumps from their customers, particularly continuously rated pumps which can self-cool and are electronically controlled for safety, such as the Wilo-DrainLift Box or the Wilo-Drain TM/TMW/ TMR 32.
