Selco give staff £2.5m boost for cost of living crisis
Selco Builders Warehouse has unveiled a £2.5m boost to its staff to help them deal with the ongoing cost of living crisis. The builders merchant, which has 73 branches across the UK, will give 96% of its 3,000-strong workforce a payment of £750 spread over five months from November to March, with £150 payments per individual each month, as a esponse to rising energy bills and general inflation. Howard Luft, chief executive said: “We are living through an unprecedented cost of living
crisis and it’s placing pressure on household budgets, from energy to food and fuel to mortgages, up and down the country. “We wanted to do what we could to provide additional support to colleagues who, day-in and day-out, give outstanding commitment, dedication and service to the ongoing growth and success of Selco.
He added: “Everyone in the business, apart from the most senior figures in management, will benefit from these payments which are structured in such a

way that they can have a direct impact on the rising monthly bills during the winter months. “We are hoping this will help our colleagues through the challenging economic times the country is facing and we will continue to investigate further opportunities to support our people through this period.” Employees working in Selco’s 73 branches, as well as its Support Centre in the Midlands and two delivery hubs in London and Birmingham, will all benefit from the payment.
Following successful trials, free
breakfasts with locally sourced products will also be available for staff every day across the Selco estate.
Jewson’s Woking branch joins group’s sustainability drive
The Jewson branch at Arthurs Bridge Wharf in Woking has become the national builders’ merchant’s latest site to go to near zero carbon energy. The renovation includes
improved insulation, energy-saving LED lighting throughout the store, and air source heat pumps to create a comfortable temperature inside the branch. All the technology installed, which is significantly reducing the store’s carbon footprint, is available to customers
through Jewson’s Making Better Homes range. The branch’s
environmental makeover has been made possible by its parent company, Saint-Gobain and the building giant’s Carbon Fund. The Woking store is one of around 30 near zero carbon energy Jewson branches planned for the next year.
The Arthurs Bridge Wharf
branch also features a new shop area with additional storage space. This means it now stocks a broader range of readily available building materials, including more timber, sheet building products and roofing supplies.
