NEWSROUND MKM opens100th branch


National builders merchant group MKM has opened its 100th branch, which officially opened its doors in Bromsgrove on Friday 23rd September.


MKM now has over 2500 employees, with branches right across the UK, except Northern Ireland.


On the day, the cutting of the ribbon was performed by David Kilburn, the joint founder of MKM and Kate Tinsley, MKM’s CEO. The opening event attracted hundreds of local customers, who were royally entertained by


h&b Development Group adds new recruit


Yorkshire-base independent builders merchant Woods of Hornsea has become the latest recruit to the h&b Development Group. Woods of Hornsea is a single branch mixed merchant based in the Yorkshire coastal town of Hornsea run by husband-and-wife team Nick and Mandy Tudor. They have grown the business to a £2million turnover with 13 staff and a full range of light and heavy side building materials sold from the trade counter and yard. Woods services local builders and tradesmen with delivery facilitated with a fleet of 7.5 tonne crane trucks. The h&b Development Group offers smaller merchants a proven route to growth and full group membership. With a basket of deals and the support and guidance of h&b and its partners, members of the h&b Development Group can grow turnover and margin to a point where they can join the main group after reaching key growth marks.

MKM Bromsgrove has pledged its ongoing support to The HB9 Foundation, with Dion presenting the charity with a cheque for £1500 on behalf of MKM. MKM’s 100th branch opening will be followed with other new branch openings, initially in North Walsham, Lincoln North, Bury and Manchester.


Robert Price pumps up investment in Newport Welsh builders merchant Robert


Price has opened a new, state- of-the-art air source heat pump showroom in Newport, to help people across Wales make a confident and successful transition to sustainable home heating.


Teaming up with heat pump manufacturer, Daikin, the Sustainable Energy Centre was opened at an official launch day, attended by Newport City Councillor Yvonne Forsey, the Mayor of Newport Councillor Martyn Kellaway and the Mayoress, Helen Kellaway. As well as providing a hub for homeowners, the centre will also


house a heat pump training centre to help the region’s plumbing and heating installers diversify into renewable heating solutions and ensure the long-term competitiveness of their businesses, as fossil fuel boilers are phased out. Kassie Williams, sustainable partnerships manager at Robert Price, said: “Opening our new Sustainable Home Centre is a fantastic milestone for our business and the local community. It will complement our overall renewable offerings package and help further develop


the renewable energy market in Wales.


“With our expert advice in all areas of building, plumbing, heating and renewable energy solutions, and Daikin’s market- leading domestic product range, there will be something for everyone to benefit from.”
