BMF announces partnership with InstallerShow 2023

INDUSTRY VOICE

The BMF has announced a partnership with InstallerSHOW 2023 that will see the two organisations working closely together over the next 12 months to support the Plumbing & Heating community. The BMF will have its own exhibition area at the InstallerSHOW 2023 next June, as well as running a P&H Forum for BMF members and fielding speakers in relevant theatres at the trade fair, encouraging members to get involved. Plumbing & Heating is an important sector for the BMF, and

its biannual P&H Forum brings together merchant and supplier members to discuss the latest challenges and opportunities affecting the market.

InstallerSHOW will sponsor a special edition of the P&H Forum to be held for the first time at the BMF Annual Members Conference in September. Hosted by P&H Chairman Mark Bradley, this will include presentations by Simon Oakland of Wolseley and David Pochin of Pochin Plumbing & Heating Supplied and Chairman of PHG Buying Group.

BMF CEO John Newcomb said: “This is an exciting partnership that reflects the strategic importance of the P&H sector within BMF’s membership. We are constantly looking for additional ways to support

The increase came entirely from price inflation (+8.4%), with volumes down by -5.3%. However, all three comparators for the month of June were down on their May 2022 equivalents. Sales values in June were -13.6% lower than the previous month, with one less

The BMF represents an important part of the P&H sector. Their knowledge of the industry and connections will add a further layer to InstallerSHOW, in what is shaping up to be our biggest and busiest event yet”.

trading day; volumes were -12.2% lower, and prices down -1.6%. After adjusting for trading day differences, sales values were down -9.2%. A similar picture emerges when comparing the first two quarters of 2022. Comparing the Q2 2022 with the first quarter of the year, Q2 sales values were down -10.6%, with both volume (-8.9%) and price (-1.8%) lower than Q1. After adjusting for three fewer trading days in the second period, sales values were down -6.1%.

The BMF meets Gordon Brown

We urgently need a revival of our regional economies, one that is built on innovation, skills and investment for the future, former Prime Minister Gordon Brown has told the BMF.

The BMF took part in a regional development conference at which Mr Brown and Andy Burnham, the Manchester Metro-Mayor, were the main speakers.

Mr Brown thought the search

for talent must be helped by more public investment in science-based learning, coupled with better technical education and improved vocational skills provision. As Chancellor of the Exchequer, foreign businesses looking to invest here asked him: can you guarantee access to well-educated people with good skills? Improving skills depends on providing courses that are valuable and worth doing -

The P&H sector continues to be adversely affected by availability issues for certain key products, in particular gas boilers, where supply has been delayed by the global shortage of semi-conductors.

The data for the PHMI is taken solely from P&H specialists, including City Plumbing Supplies, Graham, James Hargreaves Plumbing Deport, PTS and Wolseley, who form part of GfK’s Plumbing & Heating Merchants Panel, and there is no overlap or double counting between the PHMI and the BMF’s established Builders Merchants Building Index which analyses sales at generalist merchants.

because they are connected to the economic needs of where people live and work, he said.

Mr Burnham wants to be given control of all non-university post-16 education funding within his 10 local authorities.

The fact that Greater Manchester has to ask for these powers means devolution has a long way to go, he said. All metro-mayors believe they can deliver local priorities better that ministers do - because what Whitehall is doing is not working as it should.
