Final call to submit for MasterMerchant 2026

With summer just around the corner, we encourage our members to secure their place at MasterMerchant 2026, taking place from 9-11th July in Ingleton, North Yorkshire.

This year’s event will bring a fresh setting and an updated format, shaped by member feedback. Running from Thursday evening through to Saturday lunchtime,

the revised schedule is designed to make it easier for teams to take part while still delivering the full MasterMerchant experience. For those yet to sign up, MasterMerchant remains one of the most distinctive opportunities in the industry calendar. Teams of four, drawn from across businesses and roles, will tackle a series of mental and physical challenges that

test problem-solving, leadership and communication skills. From code-breaking and logic exercises to outdoor activities such as climbing and canoeing, the exact programme is kept under wraps, ensuring a level playing field for all. Beyond the competition itself, the event is widely recognised for the connections it creates. Whether entering as a company team, inviting customers to join, or signing up individually to be matched with others, participants can expect to build lasting relationships across the sector. With places limited and strong

International insight and political perspective added to the BMF Conference speaker line-up

The BMF has announced two further high-profile speakers for its 2026 Members’ Conference & Awards, strengthening an already compelling programme with international insight and expert political analysis. Taking place on 16–17 September at The Belfry Hotel & Resort in Sutton Coldfield, the annual conference is a key event in the industry calendar for understanding the forces shaping the building materials supply chain.

Delegates will hear from Daniele Moretti, General Coordinator of 4BILD, who will

share an international perspective on innovation in distribution. Operating across Northern Italy, 4BILD has developed an integrated model that connects manufacturers, contractors and designers, combining distribution with design and technical services. It also places a strong emphasis on sustainability, with an active role in construction waste recovery and supporting circular economy initiatives through the REC Consortium. Complementing this

National minimum wages 2027: have your say

The BMF has learned that the Low Pay Commission (LPC) is travelling

around the country over coming months to hear directly from employers and workers about the real-world impact of the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage.

The Low Pay Commission is the independent body that

advises HM Government on the National Minimum Wage. The Commissioners are drawn from various backgrounds and are responsible for making recommendations on future rates.

These regional visits are your chance to put your views and describe the impact of rate rises on our supply chain (esp. SMEs) to inform future LPC recommendations to ministers.

May 2026 www.buildersmerchantsjournal.net

The LPC will hold meetings as follows: • Aberdeen: 13 & 14 May; • Peterborough: 10 & 11 June; • Wrexham: 1 & 2 July; • Londonderry/Derry: 29 & 30 July 2026.

If you wish to attend, please contact joseph.wilkinson@ lowpay.gov.uk or duncan. michie@lowpay.gov.uk. Venues will be confirmed when it is known how many will attend.

Together, these first speaker announcements set a strong tone for the calibre and scope of this year’s line up, signalling a programme that will span contemporary issues from supply chain innovation to geopolitics and trade.

Members can find out more and reserve their place at: https://tinyurl.com/yvtmvpmc

Ministers have asked the LPC to begin consulting on recommendations for next year’s NMW from April 2027. This consultation closes on 26 June and the questions can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/ government/consultations/ low-pay-commission- consultation-2026

If you plan to attend, or submit evidence, please share with Brett Amphlett in the BMF London Office to add to our work on the ‘cost of doing business’.
