Industry responds to Government’s Grenfell recommmendations
The industry has broadly welcomed the Deputy Prime Minister’s statement in response to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Final Report recommendations. The Construction Products Association says that the publication of the Construction Products Reform Green Paper, with its ambition, clarity and direction of travel for the construction products sector has been long awaited.
The Association says that it will work with members and the wider industry to provide its full support and response during the Green Paper’s consultation. “The CPA remains committed to learning from this tragedy and
helping drive meaningful change, particularly toward eliminating unsafe practices and ensuring that safety and accountability become non-negotiable priorities in the industry.”
The National Federation of Roofing Contractors also welcomes the government’s acceptance of all the Grenfell Phase 2 recommendations and urges that action is taken to support all responsible specialist contractors in the delivery of high- quality buildings. “We commend the
government’s commitment to preventing another tragedy like Grenfell,” says CEO James Talman.
Jewson launches first sustainability centre
Jewson has opened its first sustainability centre within its newly refurbished branch in Cringleford, Norwich.
The centre contains a dedicated Building for the Future product range including low-carbon materials, energy efficient systems and renewable energy solutions. As well as an expanded product range covering over 1,500 SKUs from more than 30 suppliers, the centre at the Cringleford branch has dedicated sustainability ambassadors who can provide
resources, training and expertise. Connor Laskey, branch manager at Jewson, said: “I’m proud to be launching Jewson’s first sustainability centre from the Cringleford branch, bringing the region’s builders everything they need for a greener future.”
Adaptavate partners up to trial low-carbon plasterboard alternative
Adaptavate, the developer of Breathaboard, the low-carbon alternative to plasterboard has partnered with British Land, Royal London Asset Management Property and Overbury in a trial of the product.
After hitting wallboard industry standards, Breathaboard is now being installed in the 1 Triton Square project in London to prove the mainstream potential of the

technology and its readiness for commercialisation.
Developed over the last ten
years with Adaptavate’s patented technology, Breathaboard is a natural, scalable, carbon sequestering alternative to plasterboard, one of the most widely used construction products. Breathaboard has 50% less embodied carbon than its competitors. It can save up to 4kg of CO2/m2 in a market of around 13bn m2 capacity, and is proven to be installed in the same way as plasterboard.
New timber centre for Harlow Group
Harlow Timber Group has opened a new, state-of-the-art Timber Centre, at Teal Park Industrial Estate in Nottingham. The move from the previous Nottingham site at Hooton St will mean enhanced services and a greatly expanded product range. The flagship store will offer an extensive selection of timber, sheet materials, and associated products.
Combined with a new fully equipped machinery operation, offering precision cutting and bespoke profiling services. The offcial opening was erformed on March 3 by Not- tingham Forest football legend Des Walker and John Newcombe, CEO of the BMF. Neil Sabey, Harlow Timber
Group’s group managing director said: “The new branch marks the latest step in the Groups strategy to expand its network of timber centres across the Midlands, to support growing demand for sustainably sourced timber prod- ucts to trade and retail customers alike.”
Duftons moves in on north east sales
Plumbers merchant Duftons has opened its 13th and 14th branches this year, expanding into the North East with a branch in Durham and one in Stockton-on-Tees.
The new Durham branch is one of Duftons’ largest facilities, with an area of 7,000 sq ft. It features a renewable energy centre, dedicated bathroom showroom and trade counter. The Stockton-on-Tees branch is 4,500 sq ft and features a dedicated bathroom showroom and trade counter.
