ne of the biggest changes that NBG has undergone in the past few years is a move towards being a more efficient, effective
organisation, says Chairman David Szymanski. “Inevitably, because of the way that we structured, and the democratic nature of the group, we will always have certain inefficiencies, because stuff does occasionally have to go back to the Partners, different views come in and that can slow things down. There will always be elements of compromise
as well; you aren’t going to find 80 Partners all agreeing on everything all the time,” he says.
This evolution has entailed investment in the central team, providing vital business support to Partners. “So, we have professional buyers in the central team supporting our Category Management Teams. The organisation can’t operate without the Partners, who retain control of it, but the support in the central team allows them to focus on the key aspects of decision making. We are a very democratic
