Customers, colleagues and suppliers at Selco Builders Warehouse are standing up to cancer to help raise more than £150,000 for its nominated charity in 2023.
A packed year of fundraising activity from the leading builders merchant has seen Selco raise the mammoth total for its charity partner Cancer Research UK. Alison Wong, head of communications and sustainability at Selco Builders Warehouse, said: “Having Cancer Research UK as our nominated charity has truly resonated with everyone associated with Selco. “The charity does fantastic work in carrying out vital research to tackle an illness which touches everyone’s life in some way and we are proud to play our part.”
Earlier in the year, colleagues participated in abseils – including one down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth – completed cycle challenges, a 15 mile walk across London and many more. The fundraising means Selco has donated over £350,000 to Cancer Research UK in the last two years.

The aim of the community hub was to offer people with dementia a safe space to relax and socialise but it has expanded on this to encompass a broader demographic; which includes young vulnerable people and those living with mental health issues. Mark Drury from SPUD expressed his gratitude for the support, said: “James Latham’s generous donation has breathed
to help make Christmas a little more cheerful for young people and families in need this year.” There will also be a Travis Perkins truck accepting donations next to the statue in front of the club’s reception, as well as Travis Perkins collection points around the Fan Village and Cinch Stadium. Since the campaign launched in 2013, thousands of young people have benefited from the generosity of Travis Perkins’ colleagues and Northampton Saints supporters.

With a very small budget, SPUD
knew it needed to rely on the goodwill of its project partners and long-time supporters. When the senior team was approached and heard about the social impact The Living Room would have, they immediately offered to be involved. Stuart Devoil, from James Latham, said: “Seeing the finsihed project and its potential to support and inspire individuals is deeply gratifying and reflects our ambitions to be the most socially responsible distributor on the market.”
Jewson support mental health in construction with its “Big Brew”
More than 40 Jewson branches became hubs for mental health support earlier this year, when the builders merchant teamed with charity Band of Builders to host the “Big Brew”.
The event was designed to raise awareness of mental health challenges in the construction industry, “Big Brew” is an annual campaign which encourages tradespeople, installers and builders to come together and support one another. Mark Esling, Jewson chief commercial officer, said: “Each year, the need to support campaigns like the “Big Brew” becomes clearer. The figures
shared by On The
Tools show that while mental
health is a serious issue for those in our industry, there is
a clear lack of support to help those suffering. We want to do anything we can to try and turn that around.
At Jewson’s Salisbury branch, On The Tools hosted ‘The Big Brew Live’, a live-streamed workshop with leaders from Jewson and Band of Builders who
had a panel-type discussion about how to break down the stigma surrounding mental health. Gavin Crane, CEO of Band of Builders, said: “Each year The Big Brew is becoming a bigger and more influential event and that’s thanks in large part to Jewson’s ongoing support.”
