echnology is having a massive impact on the way we view home security, accelerating the development of smart locks, providing merchants and their customers with more choice than ever before. Manufacturers are investing in extensive research and development to create products that satisfy demands for enhanced security and functionality. At UAP, this trend inspired it to launch its IONIC electronic lock.
“A desire for greater convenience, efficiency and aesthetics are all driving the development of new door hardware. To keep up with the pace of change, manufacturers must continuously improve and innovate, providing products that can meet customers’ needs now and, in the future,” says UAP marketing director Kamilla Kasperowicz.
She explains that UAP’s IONIC offers advanced security encryption and includes the ability for consumers to gain access using: an App, fob, push button on the inside, or a thumb turn. Its IONIC can also be used in conjunction with a WI-FI bridge enabling access remotely from anywhere in the world.
“For those responsible for installing door hardware, the need for greater efficiency is creating further innovation. A recent example is the Universal Flip Axis hinge which is compatible with both right and left doors.
“The Universal Flip Axis hinge has a patented lift on and off design. This means it can be easily fitted to right or left doors without swapping the pin. Compression, height and lateral adjustment can be achieved with the door closed. “The demand for ease and convenience has
also seen sales of door packs rise. These are designed to simplify both the selection and installation process with different types available including a latch pack, lock pack, bathroom pack, and fire door pack.”
Kasperowicz adds: “Door hardware design is constantly evolving, driven by several factors, including a demand for more quality and choice. These trends are seeing manufacturers bolster their product ranges with door handles in a wider variety of styles, colours and finishes. “As trends continue to evolve, manufacturers are responding quickly and proactively. This is defining an industry that is not afraid to push the boundaries.” BMJ
SQUIRE HELPS LOCK-UP ICONIC PUB LANDMARK
ronmongery supplier Squire stepped in to helped a local community in Dudley, after its iconic Crooked House pub was hit by an arson attack.
Squire CEO, John Squire, says: “Squire staff spotted the containers housing the ironinc pubs precious bricks were secured, using low quality padlocks, and recognised that there was a danger that they might be broken into - dealing more harm to the pub.
“They needed the toughest padlocks, we approached the campaigners with our offer of help. They were over the moon with our offer and coulnd’t thank us enough.” The company has launched its new generation of Inigma smart security systems
for remote access control. Using Bluetooth BLE communication, the Inigma wireless access control system works by connecting the smart locks to a secure cloud server via a mobile network and a clever smartkey.
Squire explains: “Just one key can open over 10,000 locks, and it can record over 10,000 locks visited. Inigma has been independently tested and approved, achieving the BSI Secure Digital Applications Kitemark for its operating system in padlocks, cylinders and bike locks.” The Inigma system is also compatible with both Android and Apple IOS, and also includes AES 256-bit encryption. It says it has an easy-to-use interface and extremely flexible scheduling and grouping, enabling the implementation of complex security schemes. He continues: “The hero in Squire’s Stronghold range is our super-tough, super heavyweight SS100 padlock, the world’s strongest production padlock. “Our Stronghold SS100C LEV5 padlock

features angle-grinder resistant material which sets it apart from any other padlock on the market. And it’s set a new first, achieving the LPCB (Loss Prevention Certification Board) highest level SR5 certification.” Squire also has a programme of commitment to good sustainability practices, which involves its suppliers as well. Squire adds: “In a challenging economic climate, we are generating growth through our people. Our focus is on premium quality innovation and new technology, with the further development of Inigma, as well as other new developments in mechanical lock and chain products.” BMJ
