INDUSTRY INSIGHTS

City Look Imports The beginning of a new year is always filled with optimism and high expectations towards our new goals. It is a perfect time to reflect on the journey we’ve undertaken over the past year. Our team at Cooksmart works tirelessly to create uniquely designed products that are excellent quality and great value for money, while keeping to our quintessential ‘designed in Britain’ roots and style. We are always searching for ways to improve our environmental impact and find sustainable options, making a conscious effort to do our best for the planet. Our two new design collections for 2024 utilise more sustainable fabrics: ‘Highland Sheep’ and ‘Coastal Birds’. Our ‘Highland Sheep’ collection is inspired by beautiful, on-trend

natural linen fabrics, a more sustainable fibre than cotton. Making it the perfect fabric for this country kitchen design, which uses exquisite soft linen blended with cotton. This design introduces a charming mix of fun, playful countryside characters, inspired by springtime flocks of sheep. There are coordinating kitchen accessories, stunning natural stoneware ceramics, tableware accessories, and fun sheep-themed bamboo kitchenware. This year we are also launching our new ‘Coastal Birds’ design, which has a fresh, coastal feel. This design introduces a simple yet stylish seaside range. It is our very first recycled fibre collection, designed with the environment in mind using yarn made from recycled materials. Recycled yarn prevents textile waste and requires far fewer resources than conventional cotton, making it a great sustainable option. Once again, we have coordinated kitchen accessories, lovely natural stoneware ceramics, tableware accessories, and coastal-themed bamboo kitchenware.

Trend predictions for 2024 Warm, earthy colour palettes - Mother Nature’s colour schemes are always in style, but never more so than now. Earth tones will reign supreme in 2024; the grey-on-grey era is over. Simultaneously grounding and uplifting, earthy warming neutrals that can be made brighter with more vitalising colours such as fresh coastal blues, enlivening greens, reds, and zesty oranges will bring balance, peace, and joy into your home.

Goals and plans for the new year As we enter a new year, we look forward to embracing change, developing new designs and products, working with our customers, and maintaining a commitment to sustainability. These will certainly be key themes in 2024. We start the new year with optimism, a spirit of innovation, and a commitment to making a positive impact.

“We start the new year with optimism, a spirit of innovation, and a commitment to making a positive impact.” - City Look Imports

ReBorn Brian Walmsley, founder Demand was extremely strong in the run up to Christmas as shoppers looked for a more sustainable, stylish and locally made solution to homewares. In our first four months of trading, ReBorn saved more 5,000kg of waste from landfill and more than 85,000kg of carbon emissions, based on the lifecycle analysis from Brunel University. Just before Christmas, the BBC News did a feature on ReBorn. The BBC journalist Dave Harvey came to visit our Wiltshire factory where he interviewed myself and our factory manager, Rob Stringer. He took footage of everything from the original industrial waste used in ReBorn items, through to stylish finished, homewares products. The full range is now available in John Lewis and at www.reborn.
