New year, new

Understanding consumer trends is crucial for any business entering the new year. Dexam shares the latest trends in the world of cookware.
ith a new year comes new trends, and businesses must stay up to date to meet the ever-changing consumer interests and demands. Howard Bradley, commercial director at Dexam, says
“In 2023 consumers were actively seeking cookware with properties that made it easier to use, offered multiple functionalities and versatility in the kitchen. We believe this will continue to be the case in 2024. Sustainability is still a key consideration and we are seeing a trend in consumers buying into products that will last. Consumers are moving away from non-stick and finding suitable alternatives such as cast iron, stainless steel and uncoated carbon steel, etc. All of these materials can be found in our Dexam Supreme stainless steel cookware range and Chasseur French cast iron cookware. Moreover, in our School of Wok by Dexam collection, we have a range of pre-seasoned woks that combine the benefits of non-stick and uncoated woks without having a chemical non-stick layer that can scratch and wear out. All are suitable for modern hobs, including induction and there is no need to season at home, the hard part is done for you so you can get straight to cooking delicious meals.” “Global fusion seems to be the buzzword for 2024. This means
celebrating the intermingling of flavours, textures, and techniques from different parts of the world. We therefore expect to see a convergence of traditional recipes with a modern, international twist. This will have a bearing on what cookware consumers use in the kitchen. We expect our Chasseur tagines and School of Wok by Dexam Asian cookware and accessories to be particularly popular in 2024. New to the School of Wok by Dexam collection is a wok set which is great for gifting. It includes a 12” Carbon Steel Pre-Seasoned Wok, two pairs of chop sticks, a bamboo spatula and 10 easy to make recipes created by celebrity chef, Jeremy Pang. We will also be extending our award- winning pre-seasoned wok range to include a larger 16” wok which is perfect for batch cooking, entertaining and larger families. In addition, our Dexam Supreme chefs pans are ideal for this cooking trend as they combine the benefits and versatility of a wok with the advantages of a

frying pan. Thanks to the deep shape, they’re ideal for preparing dishes with a sauce, sautéing vegetables and searing meat as they can be used on all types of hobs, including induction, in the oven and under the grill, plus they are dishwasher safe,” he adds.
Understanding the market With the current cost of living, consumers have become far more stringent with their spending habits. Manufacturers must ensure their products remain high-quality yet cost-effective, as Bradley highlights “Rather than working with many factories to produce our cookware, we focus on a small handful, developing long-term partnerships with them. This means we’re confident they meet the high quality Dexam is known for and we’re able to maintain prices for longer. We source a lot of our cookware from Europe, including our Supreme roasters from Italy and Chasseur cast iron from France, which means there are shorter lead times and less transportation costs. In addition, we’re confident in the quality of our products that a lot of them have guarantees of 10, 25 and even lifetime so consumers don’t have to replace year after year.” With the current economic pressure on the retail sector, it is also crucial for retailers to be supported throughout the challenging period. “Transparency and communication are key. We always put our customers first and in 2024, when a lot of suppliers are putting prices up, we’re pleased to be passing on savings to our customers. Over 50% of our prices have stayed the same and a further 30% have been reduced. The exception to this is Sistema and Chasseur where there will be a price increase applied from 1st February 2024. As a distributor, we have had to reflect the increase we’ve received from Sistema and Chasseur in their prices but have delayed the increase so that our customers can stock up during January at the 2023 prices. As always, our sales representatives and customer services team are at the end of the phone, we can deliver within 48 hours in most cases, the majority of our products can be bought in singles and our carriage paid is just £200,” says Bradley.
