he latest in BHETA’s popular series of advisory webinars will focus on data protection rules and ensuring that companies remain compliant.
The event takes place on Thursday 29th February at 2pm, presented
by Jenna Bruce and Stephen Ruse from commercial law firm and BHETA business service provider, Howes Percival.
This session is intended as an introduction and overview of the UK
data protection regime, including a reminder of core areas of compliance and an update on recent changes. The agenda will cover: • Why does data protection matter? • What rights do people have? • What impact does data protection compliance have on contracting? • What impact does it have on marketing (including e-communications)? • What is a data breach and what should we do? • What if we get it wrong?
Commenting on the webinar, BHETA marketing director, Steve
Richardson said: “Just recently Hello Fresh was fined £140,000 for sending out texts and emails without the appropriate consents being
in place. This is a salutary reminder for all companies not only to understand the rules and train personnel accordingly, but also to double check that they are still compliant on a regular basis. This BHETA event is the perfect opportunity to do just that.”

as opposed to doing multiple washes a day in a smaller washer.” “On the other hand, we typically say that a refrigerator will use the most amount of electricity in a household as it is required to be powered 24/7, to avoid defrosting and risking any foods or liquids going mouldy or past their best. There are, however, many ways in which you can reduce the energy consumption on your fridge or fridge-freezer, without having to switch it off. For example, by ensuring your refrigerator appliances are set to the optimum settings or not leaving the door open for longer than necessary. It may sound simple, but many homeowners don’t know how much energy any of their appliances generate – in fact, lots of people are causing more damage than good when it comes to switching up their household chores and appliances in their efforts to cut down on energy bills. Some may be cutting back on dishwasher usage to prioritise washing by hand, yet if that requires multiple bowls full of water with a lot of dirty pots, the dishwasher can be the better option,” he adds. “Businesses can absolutely provide help on the cost-of-living crisis on its website and through its customer service to ensure support is available when needed. By providing transparent information on energy usage, costs and energy savings, consumers will have more trust and loyalty to these brands and will likely return to purchase later down the line,” says Bhatoye. “Unfortunately, the cost-of-living crisis is not going away any time soon, and we predict that in 2023, consumers will be looking for even more support from businesses in the year. This will be followed by a briefing from trend forecaster Scarlet Opus, providing an early insight into the key product trends for Summer 2024 through to 2025. He will also explain how items are selected for inclusion in the Exclusively Trend Display and how to submit products for consideration. Show sales director and BHETA’s sector manager for housewares, small domestic electricals and gift, Seema Grantham, commented: “Exclusively is now recognised as the UK’s leading show in its field, and BHETA is proud to ensure that it gets even better every year. brands participating, representing all the key product categories in the housewares, small electricals, tabletop, and gift sectors. In fact, many big names have been part of the show for many years. All the top UK buyers in these categories attend and the show also attracts many international buyers, journalists, bloggers, and influencers. So, the opportunities are extensive, and the briefing meeting will be a very useful and entertaining introduction for all to the 2024 Show.”
curve, retailers and suppliers should use their voices of authority to put out clear, concise, and transparent messaging to their customers, to let them know that there’s support there for them. Consumers understand the importance of analysing energy usage on their appliances and will be making much more considered purchases than in previous years. Therefore, businesses should be prepared to work collaboratively with consumers to help them understand energy usage and find the best solutions for their purchase needs. It could also be that shoppers look more towards high-street retail purchases, feeling more peace of mind and confidence shopping with the support of a sales assistant,” he concludes.
