HOUSEWARES MAGAZINE CHRISTMAS COMPETITION

December 2025/January 2026 housewareslive.net

And the winner is…

Housewares Magazine reveals the winners of its first Christmas Competition, shining a spotlight on the retailers who stood out during the festive season.

Winner: Houghton and Wyton, Cambridgeshire

Houghton and Wyton have been crowned the winners of Housewares Magazine’s first-ever Christmas Competition. The judging panel was unanimous in praising the retailer’s magnificent festive display, which impressed just as much in daylight as it did after dark. The retailer said: “‘Our Shop’ is a community-run store serving the village of Houghton and Wyton in Cambridgeshire,

promoting locally sourced food and drink alongside household essentials. For the festive season, the shop’s window display team created a striking Christmas scene using recycled materials sourced from a local scrap store, which collects unwanted items from nearby companies and businesses. “Materials including card, cellophane, glue, cord from waste lanyards, old bottle tops and yarn were all repurposed to construct a charming gingerbread house display. The result was a window that looked impressive during the day, but truly came to life at night, as warm lights glowed through the cellophane windows.” The display not only captured the spirit of Christmas, but also reflected the retailer’s strong community focus and commitment to sustainability, making Houghton and Wyton a thoroughly deserving winner.
