talking shop ‘A must-see for all colour lovers’ JUMBLED of Australia is part of a concept that brings together coffee, fashion and home

J

UMBLED at Orange in New South Wales was founded in 2013 from humble beginnings in a small store only a block

away from owner Pip Brett’s first business venture: a fashion boutique called iglou. “The thought of creating a homewares store had been in the back of my mind since I had purchased and renovated my own home,” Pip says. “I always loved art and colour, and having already opened iglou, it really was a natural progression.” When a shopfront became available for lease next door, Pip signed up immediately “without really knowing what I’d put in it. That’s why I came up with the name JUMBLED, as it really was an eclectic mix of things I loved, all thrown in together.” Three years later the store was bursting at the seams so, in 2016, Pip purchased JUMBLED’s current home: an old masonic lodge with a striking columned entrance. After a

super speedy nine-week renovation, The Sonic opened as home for JUMBLED, iglou, and a coffee shop called Nimrod’s. “There are some really exciting things happening in retail today but I’m very aware that you can no longer get away with just having a shopfront,” says Pip. “The options are limitless and retail is not dead, but you need to be more than just a store and you need to sell more than just products. The space we have now aims to provide customers with a place to connect, be inspired and feel joy.” This approach has definitely worked because The Sonic is an established destination for people visiting Orange. And by adding Nimrod’s, JUMBLED was transformed into a popular meeting place that encourages a feeling of community. “It delivers a really special experience that our

customers say they can’t find anywhere else,” Pip says with pride. “We’re also trying to give back to our customers, and our free e-book has worked really well. It’s filled with brand interviews, travel features, inspiring images and stories to enjoy. It’s an extension of our store.” JUMBLED also sends loyal customers a downloadable artwork every quarter, which has been a real hit.

• The judges said: “JUMBLED is a destination of colourful inspiration that brings the best of the city to rural Australia. This is a store with soul that shows customers how to build a space with personality. Fresh, bold and playful, JUMBLED is a must-see for all colour lovers.”
