Quartermaine Distribution acquires Scott Brothers

Cheshire-based company Quartermaine Distribution has completed the acquisition of Scott Brothers, saving six jobs. Scott Brothers recently

entered into administration due to the impact of the Covid- 19 epidemic, but the procurement by Quartermaine Distribution has saved the longstanding operation from closing permanently. With household brand names such as Packmate, Honeywell, Russell and more in

its portfolio, the Quartermaine Distribution is able to continue providing storage and air cooling solutions to UK retailers.

Duncan Pratt-Thompson, managing director of Quartermaine Distribution said: “The impact that the Coronavirus had on the company was unexpected and sudden, so we’re thrilled that we were able to find a solution that would not only save the business model so we can

continue supplying trusted and leading brands to the UK market but also save six jobs. “Scott Brothers is also a

respected and well established name in retail, and the acquisition by Quartermaine Distribution means that relationships and the heritage which has already been built can continue.”

The Giftware Association rewards gifts of hope

The Giftware Association has launched a one-off Gift of the Year: Gifts of Hope Award through June. For one month only the Association invited entries to celebrate not just the entrant’s good work, but the work of the charity that it has chosen to support with its product.

The Giftware Association indicated that it has been inspired by all the hard work from its members and the wider giftware community with the specialist products, ranges

and heartfelt gifts that have been created in order to support the NHS, key workers and the thousands of other charities that are helping the UK fight through the coronavirus crisis. This may be specific

products that have been created during this period or companies who are donating the whole or part of a products profit to these key charities. The new category supported all gifts that have been created during the coronavirus crisis

that capture the mood of our nation as well as gifts that have been created especially to give back. The competition opened up early to celebrate these gifts throughout the month of June, and a percentage of the entrance fee will go to charity of your choosing, with the winners receiving incredible brand exposure.

and Shuttleworth Mead. This announcement comes on the back of record turnover in 2019, and very positive business results since January of this year continuing right through the current health crisis, culminating in this month (May) being the best May in all its 21-year history. Company director Tony Grimshaw OBE commented: “The manufacturing sector in Lancashire, and the whole of the UK, is ready, willing and able to supply the country’s retailers in June when they are finally allowed to re-open.

Britain is ready to get back to business and we are proud to be setting the example.” “This project, and others

like it, are great for the morale of our 300 colleagues. Whichever way you look at it, manufacturing is still vital to the UK economy and it shows that the UK is a country that makes things and gets the job done.”

BergHOFF UK’s MD steps down due to ill health

After six years of building the BergHOFF brand in the UK, and almost 35 years in the housewares industry, managing director Andrew Leggett and wife Paula have announced they are sadly stepping down due to Mr Leggett’s ill health. “I’m proud to have been an ambassador

for BergHOFF in the UK and it’s given me immense pleasure to see the brand flourish in the high street and online, especially given the tough economic challenges we’ve faced,” said Leggett. “I was diagnosed with MND (Motor Neurone Disease) in 2017. My friends in the industry will know that I’m not one to crave attention, so Paula and I have kept my condition as private as we could up until now. However, the time has come for Paula and I to take life at a slower pace and I know we’re leaving the company in good hands with our dedicated and supportive team in the UK.” The company’s management reins will be passed to BergHOFF Worldwide’s owner Raf Vanthoor who will oversee the running of the UK business. “I will always be grateful to Raf for his continued support, both from a business and personal perspective,” added Leggett, “and I’m confident that Raf’s prolific focus on product development will continue to add much needed newness to the worldwide market.”
