What More UK's director Tony Grimshaw outlines how the company has adapted during the Covid-19 pandemic

only their maths and English expertise but life skills too. Baking was never a lost art, just hiding and coming out to play at Christmas and Easter or when The Great British Bake Off was on the TV. It has now found a whole new generation of boys and girls, eager to practice their newfound skills, and to show off their expertise with pride.

How can the industry capitalise? The major multiples and our independent partners saw this developing trend very early on in the lockdown and provided the tools for the culinary classroom. Sales across the whole area, from measuring jugs to mixing bowls, to cake tins are up and the increases are substantial.

What habits did we see from consumers during lockdown? Cooking habits have changed a lot during lockdown. Bakeware is on the rise and we have seen similar increases across the board. We were interviewed by the BBC recently, and they asked the same question about our bakeware and the nation’s cooking habits. The answer hasn’t changed. During lockdown, cooking and baking played a massive part in the home education curriculum. Parents are spending a lot of time with their children, of all ages. Passing on not

How about cleaning products? Talking about cleaning products, the stores’ shelves emptied very early in the health crisis. Demand has remained high because people want to do their best to control the virus. There is now a new standard; this will only maintain demand.

Will this demand continue? The virus has given people a push to be even more careful with their home cleaning. Now we’ve become accustomed to a more cautious cleaning routine, these extra purchases will be followed by replacement.

• Right now the order book looks good right across all our product groups, plastic and metal. As confidence grows, it should show that orders will follow suit.

• Export also plays a large part in our sales. Some people forget that this is a world problem. Our overseas markets have been steady through the crisis, they too are now beginning to open up totally.

• Hopefully this relates to happy days internationally for Wham products too.
