1. Provide a short introduction to your company?

Established in 1982, Swiftclean has become one of the most sought-after UK providers of duct cleaning and Legionella risk management services. As early pioneers in ductwork cleaning and water system management, they helped create best practice; still leading the way in training, skills, competence and compliance after over 40 years in the business.

2. Describe the service you offer? We offer dependable advice and legally compliant services for Legionella Control, Kitchen Extract Cleaning (for fire risk control), Duct Cleaning, Water Tank Cleaning, Grease Trap Management, Indoor Air Quality Monitoring and Fire Damper testing. We support building managers and facilities managers from a variety of industries, including food manufacturing, retail, leisure, hospitality, education, housing, medical and care. We help them comply with important legislation and guidance, keeping their building occupants safe. Our fully trained teams of field technicians, based nationwide, hold security credentials including airside passes and enhanced DBS, thereby ensuring that building compliance is in safe hands.

3. How does legislation affect your service? The services we offer are all associated with a legal regulation compliance requirement and typically follow an industry specification or guide to good practice to meet the compliance, we are not a general cleaning company. We have been instrumental in developing the industry-recognised guidance document – TR19 – published by the Building and Engineering Services Association. This is the standard by which all ventilation cleaning should be carried out.

TR19®Grease was developed from section

7 of TR19 and upgraded to a specification specifically for grease extract systems. TR19 itself has recently been re-issued

as TR19® Air – a specification for internal cleanliness and hygiene management of ventilation systems.

4. Describe any training you offer? Swiftclean’s training centre was established in 2017 and rebranded this year as the ‘Swiftclean Academy’. As a leading provider of specialist ductwork cleaning, and water hygiene services, we specialise in hosting the BESA Grease Hygiene Technician and Operative courses. We have been heavily involved in the development of these courses, helping to develop both

company, ensuring they get the right knowledge and skills before being released to deliver services to customers. Each new starter is also assigned a mentor to support them. We have improved the holiday entitlement for staff, and introduced social events to make people feel included including an annual Summer BBQ where all are invited. We also carry out annual staff surveys to establish how the different groups are feeling about their employment. We have introduced a staff profit sharing scheme. The result has been a better staff retention rate and an enhanced feeling of support in the new careers for staff joining and working in the company.

syllabuses, as well as the TR19® specifications with which ductwork cleaning must comply. We not only train our operatives to the highest industry standards of skill and competence but also those in the wider industry. A practical training facility has been developed to provide hands-on experience for course attendees. We are one of only three accredited BESA Training

Academy centres in the UK that hold the BESA accredited training courses for ventilation hygiene. Further courses arriving very soon include Fire Damper Testing training and Fire Door Inspection Courses. These are in addition to our existing Legionella Awareness and Control courses.

5. What is the biggest industry challenge you face?

Without a doubt, the biggest challenge that we face is in the recruitment and retention of skilled staff. Our industry is rapidly expanding in terms of demand, but the number of skilled reliable staff is not sufficient to fill the vacancies available. This has been an issue since we saw the back of the Covid era. To deal with this we have been working on a business-wide strategy for our people and their retention. It starts with our induction process, which has been substantially re-modelled to give new starters a significantly better experience when transitioning into our

6. Describe what sets your company/service apart? We’re experts at what we do: ¡ We helped draft the BESA TR19® specifi cations. ¡ As a Ventilation Hygiene Register member (VHR), our ventilation services are audited by BESCA, so customers know we’ve done a good job and they’re compliant. ¡ We are long-term members of the Legionella Control Association (LCA), and our Legionella Control experts help ensure customer policies are robust. ¡ We’re the only company recommended by AXA Insurance for our Kitchen Extract Fire Safety Cleaning service and our Legionella services. ¡ We run a training academy approved by the BESA, customers can be assured that our teams are trained to recognised industry standards. We train not only our staff but also train the industry. ¡ We are accredited and regularly assessed with three ISO standards – ISO9001 for quality, ISO14001 for environmental and ISO45001 for health and safety.

7. What are your future plans? We have been working on and developing a strategic growth plan called 4 GROWTH, which was conceived at the beginning of 2023. It has been developed with the input of our man- agement team, wider staff , and the directors. The plan has 4 pillars of focus: (1) People and Retention, to cement a complete, highly skilled, happy, and motivated workforce, with above industry average retention. (2) Retain Profi table Customers, by creating a customer- focused culture, where profi table customers’ requirements are identifi ed and fulfi lled. (3) Profi table Sales Growth, where we will increase turnover to provide profi table sales growth. (4) Driving Profi t Through Process, where we identify, review, and implement process improvements, to achieve the greatest effi ciencies and improved profi t margin.
