GILBERTS
Balancing air quality with airfl ow, to avoid interference with ballistic trajectory, has been achieved by Gilberts (Blackpool), which delivered on the construction of a new, accredited training school for a branch of the UK security sector. Alongside the four storey main ‘school’ building are two fi ring training arenas. Both ranges feature banks
of Gilberts’ ventilation grille and plenum assemblies, up to 3.8m high, integrated into the ballistic steel walls. A total of 38 assemblies, with Gilberts’ G grille at the core, ensure adequate, laminar supply of fresh air into the zones without aff ecting bullet trajectory. Gilberts’ G Series of aluminium grilles provide single or double defl ection for supply and extract in ceilings or walls. Each aerofoil blade is adjustable to achieve the fi ne tolerances required for the ranges. This is the latest of several similar projects Gilberts has delivered on ranges from 20-100m deep.

ALPHA
Stanton Estates recently decided to move into building houses to rent, rather than sell. Long-term reliability was a key requirement, and the developer decided to switch from its previous manufacturer Alpha Heating Innovation boilers instead. It picked Alpha because of the its strong reputation for reliability, and has now fi tted Alpha’s boilers in more than 90 of its rental properties. Alpha’s PremierPack wall-mounting jig
enables a quicker, neater installation for engineers, with split fl ow tails for piping from above, a pipe clip plate with variable fi xing points and a pipe cover tray. It also has the Alpha Cyclone Plus magnetic fi lter, which removes debris from the heating system, reducing the risk of damage to the boiler. Alpha adds up to three years additional warranty to the boiler if installed with a PremierPack, depending on the model.

BIG FOOT
Big Foot Systems has supplied non-penetrative supports for rooftop plant to a shopping centre in West Yorkshire. One of the main anchor tenants at the shopping centre requested that the developer provide paving slabs for the rooftop so their contractor could position the store’s air handling units (AHUs) on them. However, placing slabs directly on a single ply membrane roof can tear through it. Big Foot Systems provide a design to safely and evenly support the plant loads without damaging the roof. After providing the anchor tenant with HD Frames to support
all AHUs, the contractor approached Big Foot Systems for further supports for packaged plant rooms and AHUs. Its non-penetrative supports were crucial in order to uphold the landlord’s roof warranty.

RINNAI
Kestrel Mechanical Services of Sevenoaks, Kent, has recently fi nished a complete refi t of hot water heating systems at a care home in the South East of England. Kestrel installed two Rinnai HDC 1500i on Natural Gas and included the unique scale inhibitor protection system. The Rinnai HDC 1500i range is designed for use directly off the mains, with no need for large, ungainly and energy ineffi cient storage vessels, and is capable of delivering in excess of 780 litres per hour at 65 degrees Celsius, therefore ensuring water temperatures ideal for preventing legionella proliferation. There is big potential for annual fuel savings with a HDC1500i low NOx unit; these costs can be minimised next to any comparable type of storage water heater, such as a gas direct fi red storage water heater or an indirect cylinder system connected to the heating boiler.
