NEW CHIEF OF UK NET ZERO CARBON BUILDINGS STANDARD

atie Clemence-Jackson has been appointed as the chief executive of Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard Limited – the company that has been


established to own and manage Buildings Standard (the Standard).


The Standard is an initiative backed by the BBP, BRE,


Carbon Trust, CIBSE, IStructE, LETI, RIBA, RICS and the UKGBC, which establishes a defi nition for a Net Zero Carbon Building for each of the main sectors and building typologies in UK real estate. The Pilot Version of the Standard was published in September 2024, and over 200 individual projects are currently involved in a Programme of testing the detailed application of the rule book against real world issues of design, construction and operation. In May 2025, an open tender and a PQQ was issued for the appointment of a Verifi cation Administrator in


order to put in place a structure for building owners and occupiers to apply for confi rmation of their conformity to the Standard, once Version 1 is published at the end of this year. David Partridge, chair of the Governance Board of the


Standard, said: “Appointing Katie Clemence-Jackson, is a big statement of intent – her job will be to set up the executive secretariat that will run NZCBS Ltd and the Standard and ensure that its future is secure.” Katie has been involved with the Standard for some


years. She is a CIBSE member and the Chair of CIBSE’s Sustainability Special Interest Group. She previously chaired the Standard’s Technical Steering Group, culminating in the publication of the Pilot Version, last year.

he Heat Pump Association (HPA) has appointed Chris Taylor-Hamlin, senior


environment research manager at Daikin, as its next Vice Chair. He will enter his new post in September. Chris brings a wealth of experience


in the renewable heating sector and within trade associations and has been an active member of the Heat Pump Association. His assistance in leading the HPA is expected to further strengthen the Association’s strategic direction and industry infl uence at a pivotal time for the UK’s transition to net zero. He said: “It’s an honour to have been voted in by the members as Vice Chair of the HPA. The HPA is one of the most proactive associations I have had the pleasure of working with. he Industrial and Commercial Heating Equipment Association (ICOM) has appointed Adveco technical director Bill Sinclair as its new chair of the Commercial Heating Technical Committee (CHTC).


Consisting of commercial heating and hot water appliance manufacturers, the emphasis of the ICOM CHTC is on matters impacting technical advancement, including appliance production, certifi cation and maintenance. The group works to guide UK and CEN standards and European legislation aff ecting products, as well as advising on and infl uencing political decision-making which can aff ect product design and characteristics. Mr Sinclair said: “ICOM has always evolved to meet and advance heating and hot water solutions for the benefi t of the industry’s members, clients and, more so than ever, the wider environment. It is


therefore an incredible honour to be elected to the role of ICOM CHTC chair, supporting the association at such a critical time in the evolution of the UK’s response to the need for more effi cient, cost-eff ective and sustainable industrial and commercial heating.”
