Koura is supporting the European


Fluorocarbons Technical Committee (EFTC) i n its recently established action line, which allows people to report suspicious HFC offerings confidentially, and which has generated over 150 leads since it was established.


We are also backing the European


C ommission’s recent decision to seek discussions w ith non-EU countries, such as Turkey, Russia a nd the Ukraine, where there is a healthy illegal trade. This will allow us to better understand the illegal trade journey, to ultimately put a stop to it. We hope that by increasing awareness among c ustoms officials, holding regular customs i nspections, monitoring online marketplaces and p articipating in intelligence-led investigations, we will be able to continue the good work already being carried out by vigilant people in industry and authority.


The UK is aiming to build a solid reputation for tackling illegal refrigerants utilising collaborative efforts from industry and authorities. Whatever


t he Brexit outcome, UK industry will continue t o work closely with the EU in working towards streamlining penalties, improving reporting procedures and increasing awareness of a problem which not only affects the environment but also the economy.


E ven with the uncertainty of Brexit looming, w e understand how essential it is for the UK to


remain firmly as a leader in the fight against i llegal imports and continue to work with all member states and the EFCTC to combat this ongoing problem.


Although Brexit might add new challenges, the ultimate goal for many members states and industries will stay the same - to stop the illegal refrigerant trade.
