Roaring success for gym’s air con

eo Gym in Marlow is a state-of-the-art space for beginners and experienced athletes alike. The team needed an air conditioning and ventilation system that matched the environment they were creating, so they turned to 361 Degrees for help.
HVAC installation and temperature control in the gym not only boosts productivity and comfort, but is also imperative for maintaining the health and wellbeing of members. Viruses and bacteria can harbour in poorly ventilated environments as droplets in the air and in warm, damp environments such as gyms, this bacteria grows quickly. The atmosphere and environment of a commercial space can have a signifi cant impact on the customer experience, which will ultimately determine whether or not they wish to return. By implementing a tailored solution, the Leo Gym team wanted to ensure ongoing customer satisfaction and retention whilst generating new business via word of mouth. air. When designs fall short, stale air or the uncomfortable feeling of wind blowing around from a badly conceived air conditioning system can easily put customers off returning to the gym. Temperature control plays a big part in the overall user experience, with seasonality being key. In the summer, customers look for a cool and comfortable environment to work out in, whereas in the winter, they require a space warm enough to take away the chill, without being so warm that the space becomes uncomfortable. Finding the balance was a challenging task. Gym owner Maarten Donk said: “Our building is unfortunately not structured in a way that keeps heat or cool in very well. It’s a very old industrial building, so a good air conditioning system was very important.”
Bevan Green, technical sales consultant at 361 Degrees, said: “We went in there and understood Maarten’s needs; we could see what he was trying to create straight away. Getting fresh air into the space is absolutely key for having a good workout and feeling good afterwards.”
The Leo Gym team’s original proposal was for a VRF system, but after visiting the site and assessing the 2,200 sq ft gym area, 361 Degrees found that a split unit approach would be more eff ective. This allowed the long, thin building’s external walls to be used for pipe runs. An impressive domed roof allowed for the use of exposed ductwork, which matched to the aesthetic of the modern, vibrant space. The Leo team chose to work with 361 Degrees based on its reputation for working eff ectively with and around other tradespeople. Work was being undertaken elsewhere in the building in order to ensure a quick completion. In addition to the fi rst-fl oor gym, the ground fl oor was equipped with a reception area, changing rooms and a yoga studio. With each space having its own requirements, 361 Degrees’ proactive project managers scheduled work around electricians and other contractors to ensure a smooth installation across both fl oors. The result is a stunning environment that motivates and energises every customer.
