The DuPont Kalrez LS390 series of perfl uoroelastomer sanitary seals have been designed specifi cally for use in sectors such as life sciences, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical. Kalrez LS390 provides longer seal life and tighter sealing, which improves productivity and process optimisation. Moreover, the new seals create a safer
environment in the day-to-day running of process plants and manufacturing facilities. Kalrez LS390 seals are available in the UK from authorised distributor Dichtomatik.
There are a number of problems that can be experienced in sanitary seal applications, many of which are related to thermal and chemical resistance challenges, compression set (permanent deformation), and high static friction (stiction). Such issues can lead to intrusion in the production line or dead space, which in turn elevates the risk of contamination or leakage. Kalrez LS390 has been purpose-designed to overcome these common challenges by providing high hardness properties (Shore A3 88), low stiction, temperature resistance up to 220°C and outstanding chemical resistance to process chemicals, WFI (water for injection), and SIP and/or CIP processes. For users, these properties facilitate greater mean time between repair (MTBR), delivering bottom-line cost savings.
Among early adopters of the parts is a major pharmaceutical plant in Japan. Here, Kalrez LS390 has successfully been deployed in an infusion-drop product operation that uses pure steam SIP. The manufacturer chose Kalrez LS390 because of its improved chemical resistance and low stiction performance.
Problems had been experienced previously with the company’s existing material (silicone rubber seals), which had issues with steam resistance and high stiction, resulting in a short maintenance period of six months. However, after switching to Kalrez LS390, the performance improvements have been substantial. The sanitary seals provide excellent resistance to chemicals and pure steam SIP, lasting a year without any damage on the contacting surface. These performance attributes have helped to increase productivity, lower maintenance costs and minimise unscheduled downtime, resulting in lower total cost of ownership.
As a result of their unique grey colour, LS390 sanitary seals enable easy identifi cation for correct material selection and application. The perfl uoroelastomer can also be used in applications other than sanitary seals.

CIAT
CIAT has introduced Vectios, a new generation range of rooftop packaged units off ering exemplary energy effi ciency. Designed to exceed the requirements for seasonal effi ciency (SEER > 3.53 and SCOP
>3.20), Vectios also achieves up to 37% energy savings compared to Tier 1 energy effi ciency requirements.
The 20-100 kW reversible heat pump operates within an outside air temperature range of -15 to 48ºC, and up to 52ºC in the cooling-only version.
The Vectios range consists of autonomous, horizontal design rooftop units and is manufactured with high quality, reliable components. Its external circuit is equipped with electronic axial fans for high seasonal effi ciency and low noise level, tandem scroll-type hermetic compressors, electronic expansion valves, and components optimised for R410A refrigerant. Multiple options for recovering energy from the extracted air are available, such as a new CIAT active recovery system and the new heat recovery wheels.
To ensure improved indoor air quality, the Vectios units off er a range
of fi lter options, fresh air management and carbon dioxide sensors.

Samsung
Samsung has announced a progressive switch to R32 across its residential and light commercial air conditioning split system ranges. The business began this process in 2018 with the launch of R32
Residential Air Conditioning (RAC) wall mounted systems. Perry Jackson, head of air conditioning at Samsung, said: “Most importantly for our customers, at launch, Samsung will not immediately cease availability of equivalent R410A product. However, we will progressively focus our UK stocking profi le on the new R32 models, which are more effi cient than the previous models. Rather than a gradual conversion of model styles to the new refrigerant, Samsung have developed R32 versions of its entire split system indoor range at launch, including the round 360 Cassette, Wind-free cassettes, ducted, wall, ceiling and fl oor mounted systems.”
In addition to the launch of the R32 range, Samsung will also be releasing a Wind-free version of its slim 1way cassette split system. As the Wind-free technology is proving so popular, Samsung will not develop an R32 version of the standard 4way cassette split systems.
