interpack 2017 Review Headlines from interpack 2017
One of the world’s biggest trade fairs within the packaging sector, interpack, took place on May 4-10, 2017. There was a record attendance of 2,865 companies, approximately 74 per cent (170,500) of which travelled from abroad. Here are some of the highlights from the event...
Starlinger’s woven packaging made of PP and PET
This year Starlinger featured a live pro- duction of IC*STAR sacks. These are pro- duced on the new conversion line mul- tiKON KX, equipped with the sealTEC bot- tom closing module
developed by Starlinger, in co-operation with the Austrian packaging systems manufacturer Statec Binder. The IC*STAR method involves the welding of a closure
strip onto the sack bottom by means of hot air in a contin- uous process without the need for glue. The sack mouth remains open and after automated filling can be either closed with another closure strip, or sewn shut. “The big advantage of IC*STAR sacks is that, unlike sewn sacks, they are sealed completely tight with the welded closure strip,” explained Hermann Adrigan, sales director for Starlinger. “Both factors add up to cost sav- ings in raw material – in this case polypropylene – and a reduction of carbon footprint.”
Mondi’s packaging solutions respond
to industry and end-user trends Today’s consumers are at- tracted to packaging that stands out, therefore con- sumer goods producers are asking the packaging industry for solutions that increase brand recognition
and for materials that are easy to use. Albert Klinkhammer, Mondi Group, marketing director,
said, “Every day, millions of people are in touch with Mondi packaging without even realising it. The interpack fair is a platform for us as it lets an international audience discover more about the solutions we offer.” Visitors at interpack experienced packaging solutions linked
to some of the industry trends that Mondi had identified: 1. Convenience: In collaboration with Twinings, a well-
known tea manufacturer, Mondi developed a ZipperPouch that can be easily opened and reclosed. 2. Packaging with a natural look and feel: A growing
trend that helps brands to stand out. Mondi’s ArtPack is a special matte lacquer applied to flexible film that looks and feels like real paper. 3. Packaging that builds consumers trust: Being able to see a
product stimulates consumers buying behaviour and increases purchasing confidence. Mondi offers different cut out window solutions for a wide number of packaging applications. 4. Packaging that boosts brand recognition: Stand-up pouches display vivid printing, clear designs and are conven- ient to use. Mondi produces laminates and pre-made pouches (retortable and non-retortable) in its European, Asian and US sites.
Comexi Comexi participated at interpack after last year’s success at the drupa and K trade fairs, where visitors discovered the company’s new flexo press F1, Comexi CI8 offset press and gravure press Comexi R2, integrating some of the lat- est innovations into Industry 4.0. “interpack 2017 was an excellent opportunity
for us to talk with our clients and potential cus- tomers and show, once again, our wide portfolio of equipment and technologies that meet the demands of food, bev- erage, confectionary, bakery, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, non-food packaging and all industrial goods sectors,” explained Comexi’s marketing director, David Centelles.
Success with safety solutions
Award-winning supplier of safety solutions, An- ritsu Infivis, showcased its full range of cutting- edge X-ray, metal detection and checkweigher systems, designed to help safeguard the integrity of food and pharmaceutical products. Protecting consumers from contaminants in
the food chain and ensuring the accurate dis- tribution of medical products is paramount, as finding the smallest foreign body in food can be seriously damaging financially and to a company’s reputation. At the exhibition, Anritsu demonstrated the XR75 Series of X-ray Inspection Systems, in tandem with the SSV Checkweigher, on a recirculating conveyor to highlight this versatile and robust food safety technology that has a proven track record of detecting contaminants in a wide range of packaged goods.
