Slitting & Rewinding New site for expanding business
customer service has not faltered and remains something that the company prides itself on. “If a customer is down we drop everything,” comments Pimm. “Most things we can fix over the phone. Sometimes there will be a programme error or the customer is doing something that they haven’t done before, so nine times out of 10 it is simple enough for us to log into their machine and fix it that way.”
CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE Infiniti Films is a slitting and rewinding company for the high print definition market. Films are slit and rewound in Liverpool and extruded in Cheshire. The company recently achieved BRC accreditation. After just over a year of trade, Infiniti Films sales have increased by 300 per cent. The company produces highly technical
A
lpha Converting has opened its new factory in Bedfordshire in order to expand its business. The company
was situated in its previous site for 10 years and recently found that it was unable to build its machines fast enough to keep up with its growing customer base. The new factory is four times bigger at
30,000sq ft. With an increase in the number of larger machines being ordered, Alpha found that a new space would enable it to keep up as a growing business. The equipment range has not been expanded, but Alpha is now trading all over the world, for
example supplying spooling machines to Russia, and smaller and automatic machines to Europe, USA and Australia. Trevor Pimm, export sales manager at Alpha Converting, says, “Inline, ofline automatic machines and smaller machines is where our main growth is. Our new factory has helped us to expand internationally.” Alpha Converting supplies machines for slitting, cutting and rewinding such as inline automatic machines for foam products, which process thicknesses from one to 15mm, and works with a range of materials such as paper, PP, metal foils and plastic. As Pimm puts it: “If it is on a roll and can be cut, we’ll cut it!” The company is still
producing reliable, quality machines despite an uptake in business. Pimm says, “What people like about our machines is that they are easy to use. We use seamless controls like our other competitors, but ours are very straightforward and logical.” Alpha Converting is looking
to keep pushing its boundaries as it continues to make bespoke machines and to tailor its service to a range of customers. The company goes the extra mile by becoming a partner with its customers, and so is open to working with new materials and on new projects. It is currently working on developing a machine for Algeria to create carry handles as part of the packaging for six- packs of bottled water. “What we are hoping for now
is to get continuity of business,” adds Pimm. The demand for new slitting and spooling machines has increased since the opening of the new factory. However, even though the company has expanded, its

prepared polyethylene film in master rolls. These rolls are then slit down to as low as 75mm and fitted onto narrow width printing machines, which are used for the production of labels and posters in the graphics market. Infiniti decided to invest in an Alpha Twin
converting machine in 2015, when the company was first created. After researching the market, Infiniti Films spoke with the owner of Alpha Converting and found the support provided was crucial to its progression as a business. Roy Fearnley, MD of Infiniti Films, comments
on how Alpha’s equipment has become a good fit for the company: “The machines are both reliable and of high quality. We manufacture a very good polyethylene film from our extrusion company and when you compare the quality of the rewinding on the Alpha with other machines, I have to say it is very good.” Infiniti Films had compared other machines on the market to those from Alpha Converting machines and found that the latter was better constructed and more reliable. Infiniti Films has also praised the machine’s ease of use. To rewind a roll, only the size, density and individual roll requirements need to be put into the machine. This removes the need to pre- calculate any information. The company has commended Alpha
Converting’s customer service. Fearnley comments, “We’ve had a few teething problems with the machine but Alpha fixed the problem online. We rang them up, told them the problem and they checked into the machine via the Internet to see what was wrong, pressed a few buttons and it was fixed.” Infiniti Films is looking to install two new three-
layer colour extruders with a £4m investment in the near future. Fearnley adds, “We will most definitely be using Alpha Converting Equipment again. The machines are so reliable and easy to use. As the managing director, when staff members go on holiday, I often go out onto the factory floor and work on the machine myself and I have to say it is very user friendly. It is very easy to pick up. We believe that our next investment will be an Alpha machine.”
