Using Clariant’s Hostatint A-100 ST highly- transparent pigment preparations, packaging specialists are developing bottles and containers featuring highly-creative effects, bringing out the brillance of glass and the colour intensity of novel metallic and pearlescent mineral effects. Unlike dyes, the high weather and light fastness means long-term appeal and no migration or bleeding. The pigment preparations also have a long shelf-life and are easy and safe to use so manufacturers can benefit from more efficient production. The beverage industry is also seeing the advantage, using the super high- transparency to introduce eye-catching gold and bronze coloured can lids for stand- out products. The value of pigment preparations extend to other consumer areas too, for example, through metallic effects for decorative glass, computers, smartphones, motorbikes, mountainbikes and helmets. “Colour styling as a design element of consumer goods is becoming an increasingly important differentiator in these mature markets. Adding colour can create extra margin, exceeding by far the added cost of the colored coating,” says Bernhard Stengel-Rutkowski, senior global technical marketing manager, BU Pigments at Clariant.

OEM replacement ink penetrates layer of oil on metal and steel tubing


nkJet has launched CH-78, a black ink that boasts the ability to penetrate a thin layer of oil on

metal components and steel tubing. Typical applications for CH-78 ink include canning, automotive and other metal and plastics. The CH-78 ink has been developed to

operate in small character inkjet printers like those manufactured by Markem- Imaje, Domino. InkJet has long been known for manufacturing replacement inks for OEM printers and doing so with better filtration and a meticulous quality control process, which often results in better adherence and overall performance. There is also a similar ink developed for InkJet’s own continuous inkjet (CIJ) printer, DuraCode.

replacing the OEM ink; Just flush any previous ink in the system and put in InkJet’s CH-78. The ink’s shelf life is 12 months from date of manufacture when stored at a temperature range of +35oF to +95oF (+2oC to +35oC). “We truly believe in pulverising our

customer’s expectations, which is why we continually develop inks and fluids for them,” comments Jit Krishna, lab manager for InkJet. “Either their existing OEM ink is not performing up to their expectations, it’s too expensive or they are not getting the level of service they need. No matter the issue, we continually strive to make quality products and roll them out to the market.”
