Passionate about people, serious about the planet

Tea is the most consumed beverage after water in the UK – that’s a lot of people drinking tea! Tea is all about people, right? We create cuppas to be shared with your nearest and dearest –

and perhaps even those you don’t know so well. Tea brings people together to create happiness and moments of joy so, for us, it’s critical that we take care of the wonderful people who help us to make it wonderful for you. At our tea estates in Kericho, Kenya, where we have been growing

tea since 1924, we’ve got a whole host of initiatives on the go for the people there. We provide workers with pay and working conditions significantly

above the tea industry average - approximately two and a half times the statutory minimum agricultural income in Kenya. We also provide housing, annual leave pay, transport allowances,

paternity and maternity leave, health care, nurseries and clean drinking water. There is also a Maternal Child Health Clinic on the tea estate that provides vaccination, family planning and postnatal services. We’re also big on education. Since 2008, in partnership with the

Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) and IDH (The Sustainable Trade Initiative) we’ve enabled 86,000 farmers –around 45,000 of them women – to train at Farmer Field Schools for guidance on how to share best agricultural practices, increase yields, improve quality and improve their own health and nutrition. As a result, around 560,000 farmers have met the standards for

Rainforest Alliance farm certification. This approach also inspired programmes in Tanzania, Malawi, Rwanda and Vietnam! We love PG tips tea (obviously) and we love the people who help

to make it so special. We want our tea to be enjoyed by generations to come and we want those generations to live in a world that we’ve cared for and protected. That’s why we’re committed to working towards a better planet.

We were the first major tea brand in the UK

to source 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified™ tea and we’re now moving towards a new, fully biodegradable plant-based material in our pyramid® tea bags. We’ve already made over 1 billion of them!

WE’VE PLANTED 1.3 MILLION TREES We have put in place a hydropower schemes to support a shift to renewable energy, and we have planted over 1.3 million indigenous trees since the year 2000.

ONLY RAIN WATERS OUR TEA PLANTS The plants on our tea estates rely solely on rainfalls throughout the year.

96% OF THE ENERGY WE USE IS RENEWABLE Much of this is thermal energy from renewable and sustainable fuelwood (from our eucalyptus plantation), whilst the rest is a combination of solar and own-generated electricity from river run-off. We’re incredibly proud of our people and the work we’ve done

together in Kenya to help achieve a better planet. PG tips, Passionate about People, Serious about the Planet
