NEWS | Industry Updates New recruit at Zerica/BeviLaNatura
Dean Griffiths is the latest recruit to the Zerica/BeviLaNatura team in the UK. He joins from Lincat, one of the the largest manufacturers of catering equipment in the UK and brings with him a wealth of industry. Just after Dean joined, Zerica’s Hot’n’Cold drinks dispenser won
the Energy Efficiency category at the Foodservice Equipment of the Year Awards 2018 and was called ‘a shining example of foodservice equipment innovation’ by the Foodservice Equipment Journal. Dean commented: “What is really exiting here is the technology –
I’ve never seen anything like it. The depth and breadth of IoT in the BeviLaNatura drinks dispensers is truly remarkable. Two-way communication with the machines is happening right now with engineers able to modify parameters and fix problems remotely! I also deal with Zerica’s water units and this technology is starting to cross-over to the water dispenser products too. Just look at the Kolumna H2O Touch launched this year. Gemma Tuxford, director commented: “Dean has really hit the
ground running. He has already negotiated a UK distribution partnership with Cascade Water Systems for sales, distribution and support of Zerica’s water products with discussions also underway with drinks machine distributors – it has been an impressive start.”
Vendmanager appoints new
technical manager SB Software, the maker of Vendmanager, has appointed Martin Olivant to the role of technical manager. With more than 27 years’
experience in vending, and most recently over 13 years at Express the market-leading operator, Martin has earned his reputation for “making things work” through his: • technical excellence • understanding of the market • depth of experience. His expertise spans the full UK
machine park, and lately he has been heavily involved in the
successful large-scale rollout of micro-markets. Martin joins SBS alongside long-serving technical manager
Phil McGhee. “What do you get the company that already has a fantastic technical manager?” asks MD Simon Black. “Another one!” Martin and Phil will be co-ordinating activities together to
maximise customer benefits with: • existing clients • new implementations • “special projects” to introduce step-change improvements. “I like to be recognised as the person who gets things done,
because that is what I enjoy most,” explains Martin. “I already have over six years’ in-depth experience of the Vendmanager software from the client perspective, and now I look forward to leveraging that, and getting things done for SBS and all their users.”
Origami KitKats
Nestlé Japan has announced it is launching recyclable paper packaging for its KitKat products in a bid to tackle plastic waste. Japan is the biggest market for KitKats and, according to reports,
around 4m KitKat Minis are sold across the country every day. The impact of millions of plastic wrappers accumulating in landfill
has been enough to persuade Nestlé to reconsider the way it packages its most popular product. As a result, the confectionery company is discontinuing the use of
plastic packaging and replacing it with a paper version that is both environmentally friendly and fun. You see, the new wrappers aren’t made from any old paper. The updated versions will also come with instructions on how to
make an origami paper crane to encourage customers to use their packaging to get creative instead of just throwing it away. As well as being creative and possibly kick-starting a new hobby,
Nestlé has estimated that the new initiative will help to reduce the brand’s plastic waste by approximately 380 tonnes per year. The first phase in this new packaging roll-out will cover the KitKat
Mini’s five top-selling flavours, including the original, matcha, and otona no amasa (meaning adult-level sweetness or less sweet). The initiative is part of the company’s commitment to only use 100 per cent recyclable and reusable packaging by 2025.
