the new cup is manufactured using paper sourced from sustainably managed forests, accredited by PEFC and can be recycled into paper waste up to seven times. A Life Cycle Assessment run by the external consultancy WSP


states that using the new KLIX Eco Cup reduces environmental impact by almost two thirds compared to a standard paper cup.


Huhtamaki boosts recycling drive


Cup manufacturing specialist, Huhtamaki, has been working to improve communication for consumers as well as launch innovative products to aid sustainability and recycling in line with an increase in initiatives to drive recycling opportunities. Marketing manager Becci Eplett said: “The Huhtamaki QR code


was launched to drive consumer awareness of cup recycling sites within the UK.” The company’s vending Speciality Cup carries the message


‘please recycle this cup’ as well as a QR code that can be scanned by a mobile phone and lead the consumer to a web page containing details of cup recycling sites and schemes across the UK. In addition, new product innovation towards the end of last year


saw a new cup launch by Huhtamaki which is made in the UK. The Diamond Impresso ‘pause’ cups use up to 25% less material than most other smooth walled double and triple walled cups on the market and all paper cups made by Huhtamaki carry the PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) endorsement so that vending operators can be confident in the products they are using.
