NEWS | Industry Updates ‘Appy days at Manchester Airport

Sharston-based national vending and hospitality company Broderick’s has unveiled plans to introduce its new loyalty app, Pay 4 Vend, to work across a range of hi-tech vending machines located across the Manchester Airport site. Broderick’s will be celebrating the airport launch with

the introduction of a promotion for Broderick’s customers offering prizes monthly and entry to win a holiday in Barbados. Pay4Vend has taken off throughout the North West and is proving a popular and engaging on-site loyalty builder

for some 50,000 Manchester University students, staff at Manchester city centre offices, including early adopters clothing giant Missguided and Ford. A number of competitions, customer rewards, discounts, and promotions from household names,

emerging brands and ‘healthier’ snacking options are planned. In addition, every time the app is used at an airport vending machine, a virtual raffle ticket will be created for the app’s monthly draw. Airport staff and visitors can claim additional bonuses on purchases of healthier products and those

with reduced sugar content. And, there are also regular ‘spot prize’ rewards based around brand NPD or on-pack offers. Created in association with graduates across the city at The Manchester Metropolitan University and

Italian tech giants COGES, Broderick’s Pay 4 Vend has emerged as a customer engagement device, a hassle-free payment tool and a popular loyalty builder. Broderick’s MD John Broderick contends Pay 4 Vend is key to the success of 21st Century vending.

“Our loyalty app is downloadable on IOS & Android and provides a completely fresh and engaging consumer experience. It offers the convenience of cashless payment options for airport staff & visitors: customers can simply upload credit to the app using a cash card at a convenient time and payment is available via credit card, mobile, Apple Pay and PayPal.

A number of vegan vending machines have started appearing in Bristol often described as the ‘vegan capital of the world’. Plant-based company Vegan Vend is responsible for the trend with the machines offering sandwiches, wraps, snacks, drinks and desserts all sourced from local suppliers. The company said it hoped after the Bristol launch it would be able to branch out to other cities to allow consumers to have access to on the go vegan food.

Toys offer an alternative option

A range of Hot Wheels toys and other licensed blind bag pocket money toy products are being launched to snack vendors allowing families to make alternative options to snacks. Mike Simpson sales director of the Toy Box Company explains:

“There is pressure on operators to offer healthier options within machines especially within high footfall sites where families and children frequent. “We have developed a range of exciting and proven products that fall within the fastest growing toy

category both nationally and globally and accounts for £1 in every £3 spent on toys in the UK.” Mike continued: “We have conducted initial trials with three key regional operators and the sales have

been extremely positive. Key target sites fall within sectors such as healthcare, public transport and leisure. “Our products allow families to make alternative choices to a snack whilst benefitting the operators

with increased margin opportunities and overall customer spend. We are suggesting a selling price around the £1.50 mark. Now the products have proved themselves we are wanting to work with more operators to roll out our products to more sites’. As well as a number of Hot Wheels products the Toy Box range includes Care Bears, Justice League,

Orbiiz Magic Slime and Puppy Club. All products are supplied in bags comparatively sized to Skittles or Maltesers.
