Lessons from Grenfell T
he Grenfell Tower fi nal report was published at the start of last month, and industry bodies and manufacturers alike have stated their support for a long- overdue shake-up of building regulations and standards of competence in the built environment. The Phase 2 Report’s headline conclusion is that, “the
fi re at Grenfell Tower was… the culmination of decades of failure by central government and other bodies in positions of responsibility in the construction industry.” ECA director of technical and HS&E Mike Smith commented: “We welcome changes made to the Building Regulations…Enforcement of the rules has historically been a weak spot. Which is why we strongly support the introduction of the Building Safety Regulator, to oversee changes and deploy a strict regime for higher risk buildings that continues through the life of the building.”
