Simon Everitt is an ERP Trading Consultant at Kerridge Commercial Systems. He has been with the company for nearly three years. Prior to joining KCS he worked for 20 years at a 30-branch independent electrical wholesaling company - in a number of roles.


At KCS, the sales team will have already sold the software to the customer by the time Simon gets involved. His first step is to set up a series of ‘business discovery’ meetings. “All our customers buy, sell and invoice their customers,” he said. “But everyone does it in a slightly different way and there are usually a lot of grey areas. We have to ascertain exactly how the customer operates.”


After the business discovery process, it usually takes several weeks while the Hungerford team completes the baseline configuration for the customer. Then, Simon will go back to the customer’s premises to start setting up the system during a series of consultancy or training days. This is when he will go over the individual areas of K8 to ensure it’s tailored exactly how the customer wants it. For electrical wholesaler customers a key area is the integration with Luckins. This is tackled early on in the implementation process as it dictates how products are set up in the system.

“Ideally I will look after a customer from the initial meetings through the implementation process to the go live,” said Simon. “It’s a big step for a business when they take on new software and so the continuity really helps. I like how we can tailor the software for them and also being able to show that our consultancy team has good knowledge of the product. There’s nothing worse for a customer if a consultant has to say he’s not sure about something and will have to get back to them. From my experience of working on the client side I know that would give me doubts.”


Simon’s client side experience is vast. Initially he was taken on by his wholesaler employer as a credit controller, but his interest in computing soon led to him playing an IT support role when the company took on its first computer system. He worked at branch level in a number of rolls including on the trade counter in order for him to have the necessary experience to support and train software users across the company. And, when the company decided to upgrade their system, it was Simon who headed up the team tasked with finding a suitable replacement. He looked at more than 20 systems, narrowing the choice down until he was left with K8 and just one other system.


“It would probably have been easier to choose the other system as it was developed by our incumbent provider,” said Simon. “But, although both were great systems, when I looked deeper into each of them, K8 was always that little bit ahead.”


Now part of the KCS team, Simon added, “I love my job because I feel so passionate and positive about K8 being one of the best ERP systems there is - so I always want to prove that to the customer! I’m also a natural problem solver so when a customer says ‘what about this or that’ I like being able to come up with solutions for them.”
