Recolight celebrates recycling milestone with extended service
compliance scheme, has reached a milestone having funded the recycling of 300 million fluorescent and LED lamps and luminaires since the WEEE regulations were implemented in 2007. This is enough waste to fill the Royal Albert Hall ten times. Recolight is unique amongst UK WEEE compliance schemes for having the only dedicated open collection point network for consumer and business waste fluorescent and LED lamps. With 3000 collection points, the Recolight network contributes to the continuing increase in the UK’s lamp recycling

rate – up from 39.5% in 2012 to 48.5% in 2017. Nigel Harvey, Chief Executive of Recolight said: “Our members can be very proud that they have helped to achieve this 300 million milestone; it is they that have made it possible
and it is a testament to their dedication to improve lighting recycling in the UK. Their role is helping the UK to meet the national recycling targets set out in the recast WEEE directive.” Recolight has extended its recycling service
to collect more waste electricals covered by the WEEE regulations. As a non-profit organisation, Recolight can provide this at a competitive cost.
Rexel protected against cyber attack E
lectrical distributor Rexel UK has once
again received the Cyber Essentials certification – a Government standard – demonstrating that its ICT defences are prepared to ward off cyber attacks. It is the second year that
Rexel has completed the assessment for the Cyber Essentials Standard by ID Cyber Solutions. The Cyber Essentials scheme helps organisations to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data stored on devices, from desktop PCs to networking equipment. It addresses common internet based threats, including hacking, phishing and password guessing. This recent certification demonstrates that
Rexel’s ICT defences are currently secure against these type of commodity based cyber-attacks. Simon Waterhouse, Head of IT Operations at
Heatrae Sadia welcomes ‘PV for Free’ scheme
consumers to benefit from solar PV panels. One of the most recent of these initiatives has been launched on the brand’s doorstop by Norwich City Council. The ‘PV for Free’ scheme will see more than 1,000 council houses in the area fitted with the panels free of charge, allowing tenants to use the energy generated in their homes, with any excess energy put into a feed-in-tariff for the company that installs them. Elsewhere, the Solar Together scheme was launched by a collective of Suffolk councils – a group buying scheme designed to encourage the uptake of solar panels. Test schemes such as this have resulting in a combined 50,000 solar PV installations, the equivalent of 175MW of power. Such initiatives are encouraging news for the

Rexel, said: “It’s important that we at Rexel have received this certification for the second year running. It is considered to be an essential Government standard to meet, and one we are keen to maintain in the years going forward. “Having the Cyber Essentials Standard
reassures our customers that we are working to secure their IT and data against attacks and that we place high importance on this as a business.”
payments and the new consultation, ONS figures show that the number of panels is still on the rise, with 924,130 homes in the UK having them installed. Alan Clarke, Technical Support Manager at Heatrae Sadia, comments: “In the face of potentially damaging Governmental changes to the FIT scheme, it is extremely encouraging to see local bodies supporting the use of solar power. “It is vital that we support the domestic renewables
market, and whilst there may have been challenges over the last couple of years, demand for solutions such as solar PV are still steadily rising. At Heatrae Sadia, we believe that offering new and innovative ways of harnessing renewable power should be a high priority, which is why we have pioneered products such as the Megaflo Eco Solar PV Ready.”
