t’s hard to sum up, in a few words, the pleasure and privilege it has been, editing YOUR magazine over the last few years.
As I vacate the editor’s chair to begin my
retirement, I must say thank you to the electrical wholesalers, manufacturers, trade organisations and individuals that have helped me, guided me, educated me, indulged my questions and given me the stories and features that fill the pages of this magazine. There are too many people to thank individually, however, one of the most inspiring individuals I have met is Andrew Robertson, the Managing Director of electrical wholesaler, R&B Star. The company kindly invited me to its annual fundraising black tie dinner at Leeds Castle on October 13th. Many of you may know that Andrew has muscular dystrophy, a muscle wasting disease that has resulted in him being confined to a wheelchair. During the dinner, Andrew – most eloquently – told guests about the realities of life in a wheelchair, particularly in relation to train travel, when everything has to be pre-planned to the nth degree.
26 32 Electric wheelchairs, of the type that Andrew
has, cost around £20,000, so fundraising events such as this are a lifeline. Andrew describes his condition as a ‘minor stumbling block’. He achieved a Masters and PhD degree while working in the background at R&B Star!
I wish Andrew and his staff all the best in their fund raising efforts and I hope that he continues to be well. As I write, we have just launched the EW
