Industry Event Record-breaking InstallerSHOW
raises the bar again A must-visit event in the industry’s exhibition calendar, the 2024 edition of InstallerSHOW exceeded all expectations with a record number of visitors.
T
aking place at the NEC Birmingham, the enhanced format of this year’s show gave over 20,000 professionals from the heat, water, air and energy space access to more than 300 speakers and 650 exhibitors across two halls and 40,000m2 of floorspace.
The ten live content theatres blended practical demonstrations of the latest product innovations with expert insights into the technical, legislative, and aspirational developments which are shaping the journey to Net Zero in the UK and beyond.
Alongside returning favourites such as Solar Innovations and the elemental Housing Hub, a raft of attractions made their InstallerSHOW debut – from Installer Kitchens & Bathrooms, with
its focus on connecting the supply chain in a seamless and meaningful way, to InstallerTRADES, which gave genuine tradespeople the opportunity to share their views on tools and workwear in an authentic peer-to-peer environment.
Also appearing for the first time, the elemental Arena offered an opportunity to hear from heavyweight speakers such as Deborah Meaden, Greg Jackson and Chris Skidmore. The new Climate Solutions Theatre, meanwhile, hosted a series of events to mark World Refrigeration Day as well as spotlighting the experiences of women in the industry.
As ever, the InstallerPLAZA was the heartbeat of the event, with a varied programme which took in big names such as Kevin McCloud as
well as giving a voice to installers who work at the coalface every day. It was also the venue for Vaillant’s 150th birthday party, featuring bespoke cocktails, specially commissioned cakes and a live gig from The Hare Raisers.
Reflecting on InstallerSHOW 2024, managing director Mike Costain said: “It’s fantastic to see both new and returning visitors and exhibitors immersing themselves in the spirit of InstallerSHOW and embracing the belief that knowledge and fun can go hand in hand.” InstallerSHOW 2025 will take place across Halls 3a, 4 and 5 at the NEC, Birmingham from 24-26 June, bringing together 30,000 visitors, 800 exhibitors and 400 speakers.

News Extra NICEIC celebrates International
Women in Engineering Day NICEIC, the leading certification body for the electrical industry, shines a spotlight on talented females in the electrical sector.
T
he awareness day, which takes place annually on 23 June, is led by Women’s Engineering Society to highlight the successes of female engineers across the world and aims to encourage others to consider a career in engineering. Only 16.5% of engineers in the UK are female: a figure which highlights the need to encourage more women to consider a career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) sectors. Sharing success stories of female role models within the engineering sector is a key way to promote the benefits and opportunities available to those working in the industry.
One such story is that of NICEIC area engineer Lisa Burge. Named Student of the Year whilst

studying for her electrical qualification, Lisa was on the lookout for a career that would challenge her and allow her to invest in her skillset. Following a successful career as an electrician, Lisa joined NICEIC in the role of Area Engineer. This role involves her assessing the competence of electrical contractors and gives her the opportunity to drive industry standards, something she is passionate about. Lisa encourages women to consider pursuing a career in the industry that she has thrived in, saying: “I’m so pleased that I decided to pursue a career as an electrician. I have learned so much and enjoy the variety of work immensely. I would really encourage anyone thinking of entering the industry to do so. There are so many opportunities and possibilities within the sector,
there’s never been a better time to join!” A career in the electrotechnical industry can provide a wealth of benefits including progression opportunities, particularly in renewable and sustainable technologies, as well as excellent salaries.
NICEIC head of standards Dani Putney added: “Success stories like Lisa’s need to be shared with all aspiring female engineers as we try to break down the barriers to women entering the electrical industry. We recognise that there is still more to be done but International Women in Engineering Day offers a key opportunity to highlight the success of women in the industry, as well as presenting the benefits available to those who decide on pursuing a career in the sector.”
