Interview

The future of electrical design for bathrooms

EW editor Bryony Andrews speaks to Will Uttley, managing director at ProofVision.

What is your current role at ProofVision?

I am the managing director at ProofVision, a role I have held since our inception in November 2008. I am very lucky to have a phenomenal senior team in place that is instrumental in driving our business growth with the support of our wider team. The senior team and I ensure all functions of our business meet and deliver consistently on our customer expectations. I also head up product development with a keen focus on bringing high quality, unique products to our customers. At ProofVision, we aim to offer something different to the market that adds value to a consumer’s experience in a wet environment.

How did you get started in this industry?

After university, I spent a year working for a gaming marketing agency which received the highest Dragons Den funding ever at the time of £250,000. I have always been passionate about building a business, particularly in electronics. With limited capital and experience, I started a niche business in Bathroom TVs. As a ground-up

business owner, I owe much to the industry professionals who supported a newcomer with a lot to learn. It’s amazing how mutual desire and passion can foster industry collaboration.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

A standout moment in my career has been the inception and launch of a truly unique product in the form of our TBCharge in-wall electric toothbrush chargers. The ProofVision TBCharge in-wall electric toothbrush chargers offer consumers the convenience of an always charged toothbrush without having to hunt for a traditional charger and a place to charge, which helps to maintain good oral hygiene habits and daily routines. The range includes three models, a

single charger (PV10P), a dual charger (PV11P) and a single charger with shaver socket (PV12P).

Looking ahead, what product trends do you expect to see developing in electrical design for bathrooms, and how will you meet demand for them? Long term, I see the bathroom evolving with better technology solutions around tracking our health and enhancing our experience of time in the bathroom. The bathroom is quite a unique space in the house, if you think about it. It’s a place where you often get some time on your own, it is a place you end up every day often for short periods of time where often you are busy dealing with daily activities where you mind is free to engage in another activity. Getting more enjoyment out of your time in the bathroom is an area where bathroom electrics can add value. We aim to enhance this experience through innovative electrical solutions and are constantly improving our product range to meet future demands.

What were some key ProofVision achievements in the past 12 months? We are delighted to have achieved the ISO9001 certification. It demonstrates our commitment and dedication to designing and manufacturing products that meet the relevant regulatory statutory requirements, providing our customers with complete peace of mind. Another key moment for us was the appointment of Ian Green as head of sales and business development. With his significant industry experience and knowledge of the DIY sector, we are confident that Ian can support us in meeting our goals, growing our company and developing long- term relationships with key accounts. Furthermore, the recent launch of our new semi-shade Lifestyle Plus NX outdoor televisions has been so well received. Our brand new outdoor TVs boast WebOS-powered Smart TV functionality, exceptional picture quality, thanks to the 4K UHD resolution and anti-glare screen, and powerful sound output, making it the perfect entertainment solution for pub gardens, hotels and the home too.
