Introducing series four of TechTalks
EW talks to Darren Staniforth, head of technical solutions at CEF, about the latest series of TechTalks seminars.
What is your current role at CEF? I am the head of technical solutions at CEF and I joined the company in January 2022. My role involves creating tools and content to keep our customers informed about the advancements in technology and industry standards.
What roles were you doing before and how did they prepare you for this one? Through my many jobs in this industry, I have found that the most important tool is eff ective communication. In all situations that arise, having the ability to communicate helps enormously. As a college lecturer, contracts manager and NICEIC’s senior technical presenter, having the ability to communicate with my students, colleagues and an audience has always been important. This industry changes so much that it is important that new updates are understood by as many people as possible.
Tell me about TechTalks - what was the motivation for starting the series? Has the industry response been what you expected?
TechTalks is a series of free and informative seminars aimed at educating our customers on the latest developments. They were created in response to the continual industry changes we have seen over the past few years – either through new innovations or the development of standards. We wanted to create a platform that supported our customers with the information and updates they need to keep up with the evolving industry. TechTalks serves as a great opportunity to connect with our existing customers, engage new audiences, and inform them on current electrical knowledge. We have received great feedback from past attendees, with over 10,000 people participating in the last two years.
How have the subsequent series of TechTalks developed since its initial launch?
TechTalks have developed in line with changes in the electrical industry. For example, in 2022, there was a massive industry change to BS 7671, the UK wiring regulations. At the time, we focused on those changes and keeping our customers informed on those new adjustments. In our last TechTalk series, we had a keen focus on renewables, and this came as a result of more sustainable and greener manufacturing options.
