All change for Marco under new ownership

Marco, the cable management firm, has been acquired by Atkore, a global manufacturing giant and electrical containment specialist. The company is powering ahead with support from sister brand, Unistrut, delivering the complete ‘Electrical Raceway’ solution. John Heaton, Sales Director EMEA Unistrut – Marco explains what the changes mean to the wholesaler network.

world, with its founding roots in the United States having been formed almost 100 years ago. Growth and expansion came in the following decades whilst the firm explored and penetrated new and emerging global markets. During the past 10 years, as part of a strategic development and growth plan, Unistrut’s parent company Atkore, has led a finely tuned acquisition trail, incorporating relevant and successful business into the family portfolio that will ultimately support the ‘Electrical Raceway’ experience. Through the Unistrut and Marco brands, we

want to be able to supply every product that sits within the electrical installation process incorporating each unique element from cable, pipework and framework, from the roof top through walls, ceilings and below ground – this is what we essential refer to as the ‘Electrical Raceway’. We want to confidently assert our ability to provide a complete cable containment solution for any specification. At Unistrut, we have developed and honed our containment systems through decades of manufacturing experience. Our support systems include metal framing products and fittings, pipe supports and all ancillary electrical supports including cable tray, basket tray and cable ladders. We’ve watched Marco grow and develop with

interest in recent years and have been incredibly impressed by their approach. Their commitment to their two core product ranges – steel wire cable tray and uPVC trunking – has been inspiring as they have consistently fine-tuned and honed their products, developing accessories to ultimately enhance the customer experience. This is very much in line with our own ethos and wider approach and for us they offered the perfect fit. Marco will continue its journey in a similar

vein and we will press ahead in its product development drive. We are committed to sustaining a collaborative approach with the

wholesaler, and ensuring that this relationship continues is incredibly important for us. Not only will Marco ramp up its pledge to innovate through new products but it will now have the benefit of being offered alongside a comprehensive range of supporting products, allowing us to supply a complete one stop shop. The Unistrut and Marco businesses, including its people, have been incorporated into a single entity and the shared knowledge of the two businesses add significant benefits for the customer. Teams from both businesses are now able to propose a cable containment solution incorporating every element of the ‘Electrical Raceway’. This has involved additional training from within both businesses to ensure every team member has the necessary knowledge and understanding of each product group. The wholesaler forms a critical part of our ongoing growth strategy and we are keen to strengthen our relationship with this sector, ensuring that they are fully in tune with the new one stop concept and are equipped with the necessary resources to support sales. We are committed to creating simple yet informative

and interesting marketing material whilst feedback from the wholesaler will help steer our product development strategy moving forward. Simplifying the installation process and being

able to offer all product from a single supplier is already being welcomed by wholesalers and contractors alike. There is significant confidence in both brands and the synergy between the two is strong. Contractors are under pressure to streamline and speed up the installation process and by using a full suite of Unistrut and Marco products, we are able to help customers achieve this. A customer first experience is the shared ethos of all Atkore businesses and a commitment to delivering an outstanding service in terms of product quality, appearance and performance coupled with first class sales, administrative and technical support experience remains our ultimate priority as we journey into 2018. This year will see an increase in our off-site modular production, with off-site concepts shown to substantially reduce the whole-life costs of construction assets.
