Anglia workshops demonstrate cloud-based application development using Renesas Synergy

A

nglia Components, in conjunction with Renesas are providing a free one-day seminar and interactive workshop demonstrating cloud-based application development using Renesas Synergy. Having successfully run similar workshops in March, Anglia are pleased to announce two new dates in October. Attendees will develop complex cloud-based applications in a hands-on, practical workshop using the Renesas Synergy platform. The workshop will explain how to develop a complex cloud-based application on the Renesas Synergy platform using MQTT, TCP/IP, DHCP server, RTOS and peripheral drivers. Renesas Synergy is a complete and qualified platform created by Renesas that accelerates embedded development, inspires innovation and enables differentiation.

Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform or Microsoft Azure.

The one-day workshops will be running on the following dates and locations in October: 9th – Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Manchester 11th – Madjeski Stadium, Reading Those interested in attending should visit

The interactive day also has a hands on session, where attendees will learn how to develop a complex cloud- based application using cloud platforms from Adafruit IO,

element14 community launches the great BBC micro:bit giveaway

lement14.com has launched a giveaway for educators to help get the popular BBC micro:bit coding device into the hands of more students and get teachers talking about how to use it in the classroom.

For many students and educators, the month of August signifies the approaching return to school, and shopping for the classroom. The element14 community is asking educators to register on the community and post their plan for how they would use the BBC micro:bit in their classroom, after school club, or wherever they might be trying to help others learn to code. Twenty educators will be selected to receive a BBC micro:bit Club pack, each containing 10 BBC micro:bit boards, battery adapters, batteries, and USB cables. The 20 educators will then have 10 weeks to implement their plan and document it on the community through a blog or vlog, including a lesson plan. On 10th December, three educators will be selected to receive a prize pack of BBC micro:bit accessories and other items that will expand the potential of the BBC micro:bit board. The accessory pack will include the element14 Minode Kit, element14 Wear:it Kit, Kitronik Inventor's Kit, Kitronik Move mini Robot Kit and the Proto-Pic Micro:Pixel LED Expansion Board. and social media for Farnell element14 said: “We want to get educators talking to us, and each other, about how they could use the BBC micro:bit – a coding device developed to help children of all skill levels explore their creative potential through coding. We know that funding for equipment to teach coding, as well as training for the teachers themselves, continues to be one of the greatest challenges for educators. We want to get more BBC micro:bit in the hands of students, whilst also providing educators with a place to share their ideas and tips. The element14 community was created for engineers, to help them develop their skills, stay in touch with the latest technologies and be inspired – the element14 STEM academy aims to provide the same support and inspiration for educators.” Once registered on the element14 community educators will have access to news, reviews and projects for the BBC micro:bit, be able to participate in roadtests for the latest and greatest BBC micro:bit accessories and gain access to the support of a community of over half a million engineers and educators. Educators have until 19th September 2018 to

register and post their ideas on www.element14.com/community/docs/DOC- 90468/l/the-great-microbit-education-giveaway

he New PCR-MA range provides output powers from 500 to 4000 watts in a voltage range from 0 to 310V rms. The wide output frequency range covers 40 to 500Hz, which includes the aviation frequency of 400Hz. A handy addition means that the unit can also supply DC (±0-438V).

Unlike many AC sources, the output waveform is generated using PWM and Digital Signal Processing, meaning that the sine wave is very low in distortion (unlike the near-square wave output of some other manufacturers).

Output voltage and

frequency are infinitely variable, with the output on or off. The output start phase can be set along with many overvoltage/current safety features.

Auto-ranging means less user involvement.

Single phase input makes life easier and the input voltage range runs from 100V to 240V meaning that all the mains voltages in the world can be replicated

anywhere in the world including: 120V 60Hz; 230V 50Hz. Supplied software allows detailed recording of load details. Control can be front panel,

remote via Ethernet/LXI or USB plus an RS232C option. A built-in web-browser makes via-Internet control very easy. Inrush currents can often stump AC converters, but these units can drive up to three times their rated rms current for a limited time. Starting motors is often a problem without this feature.

The range is: PCR500MA

(500VA), PCR1000MA (1kVA), PCR2000MA (2kVA) and PCR4000MA (4kVA). There are no weighty iron- cored transformers meaning that the units are surprisingly light and easy to carry. Telonic Instruments Ltd are
