ADLINK announces extreme rugged VITA 75 Computing Platform with accelerated processing for military and aerospace A
DLINK Technology has released its latest Extreme Rugged, SWaP- optimised VITA 75 COTS
computing platform, the HPERC-KBL, designed for mission-critical applications, such as C4ISR and use in the world’s most demanding military and aerospace environments. With many years of experience in manufacturing computing solutions for the toughest military environments, ADLINK formed its Small Form Factor Tactical Edge Server (SFF-TES) solution group to better optimise products for one of the most in-demand and mission- critical computing needs: small systems that can handle both the data loads and physical stress common in edge and fog deployments.
The HPERC-KBL, focusing on balancing SWaP constraints against high compute performance and scalability, significantly strengthens ADLINK’s SFF portfolio by bringing an intelligent solution with its accelerated computing capabilities. Like all HPERC solutions, the new platform features VITA 75 standard
convection “MH” variant. Despite its diminutive size, the HPERC-KBL contains a quad-core Intel Xeon processor combined with 16GB of ECC DDR4 memory to provide ample processing performance, which can be further enhanced with an optional NVIDIA Quadro MXM module for GPGPU- accelerated applications. Removable SATA and SD storage
provide data collection capabilities, while four Gigabit Ethernet and six USB ports via MIL-DTL-38999 connectors offer all the network and device connectivity required in demanding edge settings. An IP67-rated sealed enclosure small enough to mount under a vehicle seat or carry in a backpack, along with a MIL-STD-
mounting, silent passive cooling, and measurements of only 223.7 x 177.8 x 98.7 mm (8.8 x 7.0 x 3.9 inches) for the
conductive cold plate “MC” variant, and 304.8 x 150.0 x 130.0 mm (12.0 x 5.9 x 5.1 inches) for the finned passive
461F/810G/704F/1275E certified design makes the HPERC-KBL a literal perfect fit in highly mobile environments where neither constant movement nor debris ingress can be allowed to interfere with demanding data processing tasks.

Avnet Silica and EBV Elektronik receive Nexperia Billionaires Awards A
vnet Silica and EBV Elektronik, both regional business units of Avnet have received Billionaires Awards
from Nexperia, a global semiconductor specialist in discretes, logic and MOSFETs. The two Avnet businesses were honoured by Nexperia during the manufacturer’s Billionaires event, held recently in Hamburg, Germany. Avnet Silica was awarded a silver Billionaires Award as the distributor with the highest number of parts sold in
EMEA in 2018, with shipments of more than 3.1 billion Nexperia devices. EBV Elektronik earned its Billionaires Award by selling almost 3 billion units in 2018. At the event, Nexperia also celebrated the 50 year anniversary of the SOT23 small-outline-transistor device with Avnet Silica and EBV Elektronik and presented a special ‘Nexperia SOT23 Award’ to EBV as the distributor that sold the highest number of SOT23 units in 2018.
Hitaltech launches new rigid Conex-it range
H
italtech is expanding its Conex-it range to include a whole new range of rigid interconnect products. “Our clients need access to both rigid and flexible connectors," explains Matt Hughes, Hitaltech’s sales manager, "If PCBs are stacked on top of one another or at right angles, a rigid system may often be the natural choice. However, for PCBs that are manufactured in panels and whose end applications can be a little more obscure, flexibility is often essential. By launching the rigid system, we're enabling manufacturers to enjoy the best of both worlds with Hitaltech.”
One of the major advantages of the
new product range is its breadth. "We've sourced the largest possible range,” says Hughes. “There are tens of thousands of permutations available off the shelf so customers can be sure there's always a rigid system to meet their requirements." “We want to make it easier for our clients to find all the connectors they need

in one place,” explains Matt. “With the Conex-it rigid range, the clients who have relied on the quality, guaranteed availability and speed of delivery of our flexible connectors and enclosures for years can enjoy exactly the same from our rigid connectors.” Even within the off the shelf range, customers can still customise the important elements, with customised pin lengths, special platings and insulators available for any application. “Our clients still need the bespoke customisation available from our flexible interconnect solution,” he continues, “but rigid can be just as essential. Now, we're able to offer both. Ultimately, it's about protecting the relationships we've built with our customers. I think when they visit us at the Engineering Design Show, they'll discover that the new Conex-it range gives them more reasons than ever to choose Hitaltech.”

Nexeon and WACKER renew strategic partnership
N
exeon, the company developing and supplying battery materials for rechargeable Li-ion batteries, has increased its strategic partnership with globally active chemicals company WACKER Chemie AG. The agreement will see WACKER invest an undisclosed sum in Nexeon and take a 25 per cent stake in the business. The two companies have worked together intensively in the recent past, and this latest move is clear validation of the technical approach that Nexeon is taking to develop and supply materials into this growing market. WACKER’s expertise will be especially useful as Nexeon achieves increasing customer engagement, and scales to higher manufacturing volumes of its silicon based anode materials. Silicon is being used in place of carbon in the anodes of rechargeable Li-ion batteries, and is on the road map of most of the world’s automotive OEMs and consumer devices companies. Silicon based anodes provide higher cell energy density leading to greater vehicle range and higher performance. “WACKER is well aware of our technology and its potential, so this expansion of our partnership is strong validation of our approach”, said Dr Scott Brown, CEO of Nexeon. “The expertise of a strong manufacturing partner is especially useful as we plan the ramp up of our materials supply in volume and speed terms. We look forward to working even more closely with our partners in the coming months.” “Today’s agreement is a key step in renewing our partnership with Nexeon, and intensifying our research activities into silicon based anode materials for next-generation batteries”, said Christian Hartel, responsible for R&D on WACKER’s executive board. “We are ideally positioned to develop and produce these innovative materials, given our decades of in-depth expertise in silicon chemistry.”
