New Omron optical sensors feature longer range and enhanced performance

Industry leading detection of black, mirrored and transparent surfaces is further improved

Omron Electronic Components Europe today announced a new series of optical sensors, featuring a longer detection distance. Omron B5W sensors are particularly effective at identifying black, transparent, reflective and other hard to detect services, and the new range also features enhanced performance in this area.

Omron B5W Light Convergent Reflective (LCR) Sensors detect target objects much more reliably than general reflection photo sensors, even those that are often a challenge such as reflective, transparent, diffuse or black surfaces. The sensor’s convergent light beam can be accurately set to trigger on the presence of an

object within a tightly specified target area, and ignore any objects in the background or foreground.

The new Omron B5W-LB LCR sensors offer enhanced performance compared to the existing B5W-LA devices, and are offered in super miniature and miniature form. The miniature B5W-LB2101 and LB2112 are available with analogue or digital outputs with a sensing range of 10-55mm for white paper, falling to 10-40mm for black. The device is sized at 40 x 8.4 x 15.9 mm. For applications requiring an even more compact solution, the super-miniature B5W-LB1112 is just 26 x 8.4 x 13mm. It offers a sensing distance of 2-10mm for white paper and 3-8mm for black. All digital devices are offered in light-on and light-off form and are sealed to IP50.

components.omron.eu GTK adds Volex Power Cords to its product range

GTK has added the latest generation of Volex power cords, the V-Novus Hybrids, to its product portfolio, with a range that includes cord sets for UK, Europe, North America and China. The V-Novus Hybrid power cords combine ergonomic design with versatility to create slimline, lightweight cord sets that are extremely durable and incorporate a new strain relief design. All power cords are manufactured to meet the required industry standards and regional safety approvals.

Tom Hennessey, business manager for cable assemblies at GTK, said, “As a result of our acquisition by Volex in 2018 we have access to their products and adding power cords to our

product portfolio makes complete sense. Many of our existing OEM customers need to use cord sets in their finished products and we are confident we can supply them at a competitive price. Volex is well established as a world leading manufacturer of power cords and has a reputation for high quality and standards compliance. We will be supplying a standard range of cord sets but there are many different options for customisation.”

The standard GTK product offering will include 1.8 M black cord sets with the relevant country plug at one end and a choice of C7 or C13 connector at the opposite end. Custom options with different cable types, colours or lengths are available on request.

New, 4x20 high contrast OLED display with SPI and I²C

MMS Electronics Ltd added a 4x20 COG alphanumeric OLED display to the popular OLED displays. The EA OLEDM204 functions as a 4x20, 3x20 or 2x20 display. The display is a slim design and can be plugged into a 0.1” pitch socket or soldered directly into the PCB. No ZIF sockets, fasteners or glueing is required hence saving assembly cost. OLEDdisplays offer excellent readability, high contrast, wide viewing angle and fast response time over the whole temperature range of -40°C to +80°C. SPI and I2C Interface. The displays have a scratch and UV protective glass with a polarizer for a deep black background. An evaluation board EA 9781-1USB is available

to help with development. The board also works with the graphic displays EA OLEDS102-6 (102x64 pixel/36x25 VA), EA OLEDM128-6 (128x64/51x31 VA) and larger EA OLEDL128-6 (128x64/64x37 VA). MMS Electronics Ltd in Leeds is the authorised UK distributor for Electronic Assembly Gmbh/Display Visions.

New miniature logic fuse for Li-ion battery

protection from SEFUSE The new SEFUSE D6SC logic fuse from ATC Semitec, are ultra-thin surface mount fuses which are ideal for portable products which require space saving overcharge and over- current protection of their Li-ion batteries.

Under normal Li-ion battery operating conditions, the D6SC carries the full current load. If an over-current condition occurs, then the fuse simply blows due to the excessive current. If there is an overcharge condition, then the D6SC’s built-in heater is triggered by the FET linked to the battery’s secondary

protection IC. This heater blows the D6SC fuse circuit and thus protects the Li-ion battery.

With an ultra-thin land area of <1mm thin, 3 x 4mm, they are ideal for protecting smartphones, tablets, notebooks and cordless power tool batteries.

As well as the D6SC, the D6SA & D6SE series (capable of handling up to 60A and higher) are being developed for e-bike and e-vehicle applications.

For further information and to request samples please contact our Technical Sales team at ATC Semitec.

Flexible E-Paper. Can your display do this?

Craft Data are pleased to introduce one of the latest innovations within the field of electronic displays, Flexible E- Paper. With the traditional glass substrates replaced by ultrathin plastic the panel can be flexed and bent without fear of damage.

Our compact 2.13” diagonal display has a high resolution of 212x104 pixels and as with all E-Paper displays offers a superb optical performance in high ambient light conditions due to its high reflectance and excellent contrast.

Ultrawide viewing angles of 180° on both the X and Y axis allows the display to be used in both landscape and portrait orientations without any loss of image quality, plus an ultralow power consumption makes the panel ideal for battery powered applications using just 26.4mW when the screen is updating and just 0.0165mW when in standby mode. Unique to E-Paper is its ability to retain the screen image even when power is removed, firmly rubberstamping its green credentials!
