Front End | News TR Fastenings launch range of compression limiters

T u

he latest range of compression limiters from TR Fastenings has been developed to meet the growing global demand from multi-sector manufacturers developing products using plastics.

Compression limiters reduce the stress that’s generated by traditional threaded fasteners. Demand has mainly been driven by the automotive sector, and applications in the energy and general industrial sectors where high load bearing plastic components are used and have also contributed to the surge in worldwide demand.

Compression limiters are used extensively in

composites and plastic mouldings as through holes help reduce the stress generated by conventional fasteners. These non-threaded inserts are commonly used in applications where a compressive load is applied to a plastic assembly to prevent the integrity of the plastic being compromised.

These products are used extensively in electric vehicles and the battery housings. As technological advances continue, so does the need to continually develop the primary components that make up an electric vehicle. According to TR Fastenings, newly created giga factories and battery housings manufacturers in Europe, Asia and North

America will be looking to include these products in many upcoming automotive research and development projects. With a global presence, TR Fastenings says it is ideally positioned to meet this demand, whilst also providing technical and design assistance.

TR Fastenings’ experience over the last few years is that many of these are designed in specials and required in high volume. There are a number of different types and as a guide the company’s compression limiter range consists

of symmetrical, flanged, split seam and oval manufactured from steel, stainless, brass and aluminium.

-blox, a global provider of positioning and wireless communication technologies and services, has partnered with Fitogether, a South Korea-based developer of the OHCOACH wearable sports tracking solution. Relied on by more than 350 football clubs in 44 countries, OHCOACH has since 2019 been delivering the highest positioning accuracy among GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) products in the Electronic Performance and Tracking Systems (EPTS) Quality Test Report conducted by FIFA, the international football organisation.

Reliable quantitative data on athletic performance helps coaches optimise the training of individual players, monitor their physical performance, and analyse their playing style and tactics. It also has the potential to transform the match viewing

experience of fans with real-time insights into the performance of each player on the field. The OHCOACH solution uses tracking devices that players wear on their upper backs to sense location data and transmit it to an interactive platform that can be accessed by a laptop or a tablet. Comfortable design and high data quality are vital for the solution to provide maximum value. Size and weight need to be kept minimal to avoid interfering with the players’ movements. And, despite challenging design constraints, the positioning solution needs to consistently deliver accurate data in real-time.

“As data analytics continues to gain importance in professional and amateur sports, we are committed to staying ahead of the game in terms of positioning accuracy and expanding our business through innovation, with u-blox as a partner,” said Jinsung Yoon, CEO at Fitogether.

To optimally balance comfort and performance, Fitogether’s Cell line of sports trackers, which feed the location data of tracked athletes into the OHCOACH service platform, uses one of two u-blox GNSS receivers to meet application-specific accuracy requirements: The u-blox NEO-M9N

single-band standard precision GNSS module offers ultra-robust meter-level positioning. Meanwhile, the u-blox ZED-F9P multi-band high precision GNSS module is designed to deliver centimetre-level accuracy in seconds.

12V & 48V models added to 504W conduction cooled AC-DC power module series with PMBus communications

T

DK Corporation has introduced 12V and 48V output models to the TDK-Lambda brand PFH500F series of high-efficiency AC-DC power modules. The series, rated at 504W, can be conduction-cooled to a cold plate for outdoor applications. The power modules can be programmed (read/write) or remotely monitored (read) through the industry- standard PMBus interface. The PFH500F series is said to deliver impressive performance in COTS (Commercial-Off-The-Shelf), LED signage, power amplifiers, and test and measurement equipment.

6 March 2022

The PFH500F-12 and PFH500F-48 utilise the latest technologies, including GaN semiconductors, bridgeless power factor correction and digital control to achieve efficiencies of up to 92 per cent. Digital isolators replace traditional optocouplers for long-term stability and reliability. Operating from a wide range 85 to 265Vac input, the PFH500F-12 will deliver 42A at 12V with an adjustment capability of 9.6 – 14.4V using the trim pin or the PMBus interface. The PFH500F-48 delivers 10.5A at 48V and can be adjusted from 38.4 - 52.8V. The modules have a baseplate temperature range of -40°C to +100°C

and measure 101.6 x 61.0 x 13.5mm (L x W x H). Product features and options include droop mode current share, a 12V auxiliary standby output, remote on/off, remote sense, an open collector power good signal and output trim. The PMBus can be used to program the output voltage, activate the remote on/off, change the under/over-voltage, over-current and over-temperature set points, plus read- back input and output current, input voltage and internal temperature.

The input to output isolation is 3,000Vac, input to case 2,500Vac and 1,500Vdc output to case. Safety certification is to the IEC/

UL/CSA/EN 62368-1 standards with CE and UKCA marking for the Low Voltage and RoHS Directives.
