need expensive Graphics Processing Units (GPU) and more importantly from a revenue perspective, large volumes of the latest generation of speciality memory. Electronic component markets in the US and Asia have benefited from almost all the growth in the “HC” market, whilst the Automotive and Industrial sectors in Europe and Japan have remained weak and languish at the bottom of global growth league tables.

Concluding thoughts European OEM and EMS companies primarily choose to source the electronic components they need from manufacturer authorised distributors because they know that they can rely on these partners to supply known quality products with full traceability and warranty support. The consensus opinion among IDEA member companies is that growth will slowly return to European electronic components markets during 2H’25 despite escalating political and economic turmoil, but we will have to wait until next year before a stable growth trend returns. Sporadic shortages of components are sadly inevitable, and I again urge all procurement professionals to join with ecsn and IDEA members in minimising lead- time problems by actively increasing their

involvement in wider industry collaboration and stabilisation up and down their supply networks. Collaboration between customers and the organisations that supply them costs very little but when well-managed, offers both parties great returns for the time invested.
