fibre optic transmitters and receivers with ST connector Suits industrial, automotive and mass-transit applications
OMC, the pioneer in optoelectronics design & manufacture, has announced its new FDH36 rugged bulkhead-mount housing for fibre optic receivers and transmitters. The new device incorporates an ST connector and has been developed as the ST version of OMC’s popular FDH1 transmitter and receiver housing. The robust design of the FDH36 helps it withstand the harsh operating environments often found in industrial, automotive, mass transit and similar applications, including off-road vehicles.
The new FDH36 consists of an all-metal, rugged turret design with a square base flange. The flange features mounting holes in each corner and is designed to bolt down firmly to the bulkhead, helping to ensure a robust and secure fixing. As well as offering greater physical resilience than plastic housings, the FDH36’s metal construction also helps with screening against radio frequency interference.
Comments OMC’s Commercial Director, William Heath: “The FDH36 is the latest addition to our proprietary range of precision-machined, all-metal fibre-optic components, designed to interface with industry standards while offering the consistency, longevity and robustness needed for industrial, transport, and other challenging applications. Our new FDH36 rugged bulkhead housing with ST connector can accommodate our full range of Tx and Rx diodes, helps withstand vibration and is ideal where links have to allow for multiple connect and disconnect cycles.”
OMC’s fibre optic systems are used in braking systems on trains; military radar systems; engine monitoring systems; destructive automotive crash testing; machine vision in robotics; data transmission in CNC machinery in industrial applications; petrol pump control systems at filling stations and many other applications across multiple industry sectors.

high voltage BLDC motor driver IC family Appliance half-bridge motor driver eliminates heatsinks, slashes software certification time and expense
Power Integrations (Nasdaq: POWI), the leader in high- voltage integrated circuits for energy-efficient power conversion, today announced the release of its BridgeSwitch™ integrated half-bridge (IHB) motor driver IC family. BridgeSwitch ICs feature high- and low-side advanced FREDFETs (Fast Recovery Diode Field Effect Transistors) with integrated lossless current sensing, resulting in inverter conversion efficiency of up to 98.5% in brushless DC (BLDC) motor drive applications to 300 W. Superior efficiency along with the distributed thermal footprint provided by the IHB driver eliminates the need for a heatsink, reducing both system cost and weight. Integrated lossless current sensing, bus voltage sensing and system-level thermal sensing makes this device family ideal for BLDC motors in home-appliance applications. BridgeSwitch devices target refrigerator compressors, HVAC system fans and other residential and light commercial pumps, fans and blowers.
The 600 V FREDFETs used in BridgeSwitch ICs incorporate fast, ultra-soft-recovery body-diodes. This drastically reduces losses during switching and reduces noise generation, which simplifies system level EMC. The new high- voltage, self-powered, half-bridge motor driver ICs also feature built-in device protection and system monitoring and a robust single-wire status update interface which enables communication between the motor- microcontroller and up to three BridgeSwitch devices. Each BridgeSwitch device may be configured with different high- and low-side current limits, eliminating the need for the microcontroller and external circuitry to protect the system from open or shorted motor windings. Integrated loss-less current monitoring provides hardware-based motor fault protection, which simplifies the task of providing protection under motor-fault conditions to satisfy IEC60335-1 and IEC60730-1 requirements.

resistors from Bourns now in stock at TTI, Inc. Now available in Europe through TTI, Inc., a world leading specialist distributor of electronic components, are CSS series high power current sense resistors from Bourns. The devices come in both 2-terminal and 4-terminal versions. The 2-terminal models are available in three different footprint sizes: 5930, 3920 and 2512 (6332 Metric). With resistance values as low as 0.2m, each family will have a range of low resistance options and power ratings of up to 15W. The 4-terminal designs allow for high precision 4kelvin resistance measurements and are available in size 4026.
CSS series products benefit from excellent long term stability, low inductance, low thermal EMF, and are fully AEC-Q200 compliant. Custom versions are available upon request. The main target applications are current sensing, battery management systems, power modules/motor controllers, as well as frequency converters.
Generally, current sense resistors are growing in popularity due to their high measurement accuracy and relatively low cost compared to other technologies. These resistors detect and convert current to an easily measured voltage which is proportional to the current through the device.
