Advertorials Power Integrations Launches 900 V GaN Flyback Switcher ICs

New PowiGaN InnoSwitch ICs target industrial applications and 400-volt-system automotive power supplies to 100 watts

Power Integrations (NASDAQ: POWI), the leader in high-voltage integrated circuits (ICs) for energy- efficient power conversion, today announced a 900-volt gallium-nitride (GaN) extension to the company’s InnoSwitch3™ family of flyback switcher ICs. The new ICs, which feature the company’s proprietary PowiGaN™ technology, deliver up to 100 watts with better than 93 percent efficiency, eliminating the need for heat sinks and streamlining design of space-challenged applications. InnoSwitch3 designs also offer exceptional light-load efficiency making them ideal for providing auxiliary power in electric vehicles during low-power sleep modes. The AEC-Q100-qualified InnoSwitch3-AQ family is particularly suitable for EVs based on 400-volt bus systems where the 900-volt PowiGaN switch provides more power and increased design margin―required for 12-volt battery-replacement systems― with enhanced efficiency over silicon-based converters. “The dominant bus voltage for electric vehicles is 400 volts,” stated Peter Vaughan, automotive business

development director at Power Integrations. “EV manufacturers are optimizing their new generation of 400-volt systems and re-engineering various power stages in the vehicle, such as the on-board charger. The 900-volt PowiGaN switch is extremely beneficial because it easily accommodates the highly inductive noise spikes that are often present in automotive environments. The extra power delivered by our GaN technology matches the increasing power demands of EV manufacturers. Moreover, efficiency in power conversion―even in auxiliary systems―is important for range extension and thermal management.”

Available through Powell Electronics are EESeal+ EMC filters from Quell offering improved attenuation and simple grounding

Powell Electronics, the supplier of connectors and more for high-rel applications including defence, aerospace and industrial, is stocking Quell’s EESeal+ EMI filter inserts with improved attenuation and frequency mitigation. The inserts are easily and quickly inserted into standard connectors in seconds without the need for any special tooling or soldering, forming an effective EMI filter and maintaining the environmental seal. Customized samples are available at very short lead times. The products benefit from Quell’s patented EESeal+ technology which uses EMC filter components embedded into a silicone rubber insert that matches the size, shape and pin configuration of the connector to be filtered. Transient suppressors can also be included. Users can specify which filter elements are required for each pin, allowing for the creation of a completely custom filter insert with widely varying capacitor values, shorts and opens as desired.

The EESeal+ technology benefits from lower contact resistance and lower inductance than standard EESeals due to the improved ground plane. Peak attenuation is around 45-50dB and customers have seen frequency mitigation as high as 100GHz. In addition to EMI filters the EESeal+ filters make it easy to ground pins to the shell such as the coaxial shields in Combo D-Sub connectors as well as ARINC and coaxial circular connections.

New ZTU Hybrid Capacitor series from Panasonic Industry: the evolution of endurance excellence

AEC-Q200 compliant ZTU series sets new standards for endurance, ripple current and temperature tolerance.

Advancing the performance specifications of the popular ZT and ZC series of electrolytic Polymer Hybrid Capacitors, Panasonic Industry introduces the new AEC-Q200 qualified ZTU series, with exceptional reliability and ruggeddness for any demanding application. “The ZTU series is setting new standards with its ripple current and capacitance specs and reliably guarantees circuit safety at one of the highest temperature ranges currently available on the market,” points out Hirofumi Maruyama from Panasonic Industry Europe. Available with a rated voltage 25V~35VDC / 220 560 µF and a significant increase of 80% in ripple current capability in comparison to the ZC series, the ZTU has been proven for 4000 hours at 125°C & 135°C and thus would be the ideal choice where high temperature tolerance and high current capability is being demanded by the application. This is highly relevant for a wide range of applications, as Maruyama summarizes: “As well as many others, it reliably qualifies for being applied in DC/DC or AC/DC inverters, robotics, rectifier circuits - and in particular for automotive applications where conditions turn out to be exceptionally severe”. Speaking of tough: Panasonic Industry also offers a vibration-proof version of ZTU capacitors in both 8mm and 10mm diameter versions. These are able to handle shocks of up to 30G, while the standard parts also have a vibration tolerance of 10G.

Turn low-tech buildings into smart buildings with self-governing wireless network from NeoCortec Swedish company Nrlyze chose NeoMesh for ease of use and quick roll out of network

NeoCortec, manufacturer of ultra-low-power bi- directional wireless mesh network modules, has recently supplied NeoMesh modules for a project from Nrlyze, a Swedish tech company specialized in optimizing heating and ventilation systems in large buildings. For an old three-storey office building made of 35cm thick brick walls in central Copenhagen they were looking for a suitable wireless network to control the heating system as the building is connected to Copenhagen’s public district heating system and therefore had to fulfill specific requirements regarding the correct temperature drop in the system. Using NeoCortec’s NeoMesh modules it took only two and a half hours to install 93 temperature and humidity

sensors in the building. After being installed in all offices and corridors across the three floors, the NeoMesh sensors automatically connected to each other using the unique self-governing NeoMesh network protocol. No main power cabling was needed as the sensors are battery powered. Immediately after installation, the sensors started to transmit measurement data via the central NeoMesh gateway to the cloud without any need for configuring the network. And, as the NeoMesh network is self-governing, data always finds a way from sender to receiver. The network nodes form an invisible spider’s web of communication channels, and if one communication path is blocked then data automatically just finds an alternative route to its destination.
