you look at our bulbs that have 64,000 shades of white, it means that you can be in the right tone when you wake up in the morning and the right tone before you go to sleep in the evening. We have also been looking at wellbeing effects and how colour affects people’s moods. A lot of the reason people have headaches when sitting at their desks in their office is because they are sitting in the wrong tone of light.” Smart lighting also has an
efficiency benefit, saving energy and reducing the carbon footprint. One instance where this can be used is in student accommodation. If a smart lighting unit is installed into student accommodation, building managers can switch lights off that have been left on unnecessarily. We have seen natural
of light into a more understandable area, and help the transition from old to new. It will start benefitting the wellbeing and welfare of people.”
As part of the education process, people need to understand what tones of lighting they should have for different times of the day. WiZ technology has 64,000 shades of white and 16 million colours, making it easier
for people to have the right tones of light. Baker explains: “For years, people have said you shouldn't have TVs in bedrooms but never really understood why. Now people are learning that it is because they are producing light on the blue spectrum which interrupts sleep. That’s why the iPhone dims down to colours in the yellow spectrum at night because that doesn’t interrupt sleep. If
progression for years in other devices such as vinyl to tapes, tapes to CDs and now that has gone digital. That is now happening with lighting. “Lighting has been something that has been pretty much standard for a long time,” Baker continues. “It’s been light switches, dimmer switches and on/off. If you wanted anything more than that, you were looking at £2-3,000 for a panel which was completely unaffordable. But now that lighting is starting to progress, it is becoming accessible to the mass
market for the first time. That’s great because it is making it accessible to everyone without being prohibitively expensive and that in turn will make a change to people’s wellbeing because they will be able to afford to have decent lights. It will also mean that places such as hospitals will be able to afford to put in building management systems that will generate cost savings while saving the environment.”
