Hartjes brand sets its sights on the UK market A

ustrian footwear brand, Hartjes, is expanding into the UK market. In recent years, it has stepped up the fashion side while continuing to place a premium on comfort and offer styles that fit feet from narrow to wide. During the past decade, that’s helped it become “one of the most important” European women’s comfort shoe brands. Hartjes has developed a strong market in Ireland in recent years and it’s now looking to do the same in the UK. The brand was on display at the Footwear Today Live show in Birmingham back in September and it saw a lot of interest in its shoes and sandals for the SS24 season. Joe Boylan, the Agent for the UK and Ireland, explained that many buyers had made contact after the show, “which is very encouraging”, he said. “At the moment we are managing everything from Ireland, but as the brand develops we will be looking to expand our facilities in the UK.”

Hartjes is a family-owned business that has been operating since 1953. The company has continuously evolved and is now known for its high quality shoe designs; today it produces 350,000 pairs of shoes annually and is proud to stand up for sustainable and future-proof shoe fashion.

Hartjes is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. Hans Sternbauer, Commercial Managing Director, and Stefan Spreitzer, Technical Director, took over the management of the brand back in 2021.

They commented: “The fact that we can now celebrate our 70th anniversary is owed to a large extent to fair and long-lasting partnerships with our customers in the specialist trade. We thank you for your loyalty and trust.”

Pavers Foundation personally delivers medical aid to Ukraine T

he Pavers Foundation has delivered £45k of tactical medical aid to medics in the front-line areas of Ukraine. Stuart Paver and Steve Ovenden from Pavers, alongside companions from the UK, Romania and Ukraine, visited the country earlier this month delivering much-needed medical supplies, including 500 NATO standard tourniquets, 200 chest seals and 60 tactical stretchers. They travelled through eight countries in seven days, covering 4,500 miles.

Stuart Paver, Chair at Pavers, said: “It’s difficult to comprehend life near the front line, but people are still living there and getting on with life as best as possible. Our journey culminated in a visit to a unit near

behind the trenches and jumped as artillery went off and helicopters fired rockets overhead. We were reassured by the soldiers, who didn’t even flinch, though they did say later they had suffered four injuries in the unit that morning.

Bakhmut, which has been the hardest fought- over area in the war. We were three miles

“The front-line medics receiving the medical supplies said it reminded them of Christmas and some were in tears. They said this delivery could save 50 lives.” Pavers’ latest mission is one of several journeys that they have made to Ukraine since the war began, raising over £350,000 to date for lifesaving medical supplies. They are planning to return before Christmas with more supplies and equipment for orphanages.
