FROM THE EDITOR

A fruitful festive season ahead

Welcome to the latest edition of Footwear Today. And first thing’s first… where has 2023 gone?! It feels like only five minutes ago that I was writing my first Editor’s comment for the magazine, and this time two months ago we were gearing up for the latest Footwear Today Live show! Now even that’s done and dusted and we’re

making plans for February 2024! The September show was a huge success, with more brands

on display and more visitors than ever before. So we’re hoping to build on that and make the event even bigger next time around! You can read the full show review on page 10 of this issue. Of course, as you may know, the Footwear Today team has also taken over the London Shoe Show and we’re excited to bring you updates about that as well.

We are now fully into the so-called ‘golden quarter’ of the year with the retail sector gearing up for the all-important Christmas period; it’s such an important time in the retail sector, and while initial reports on UK sales figures aren’t exactly glowing, let’s hope you all enjoy a productive and fruitful festive season ahead. No doubt you’re intending to have a busy few weeks in your stores.

On that note, I’d like to draw your attention to the new ‘Shopfloor’ section of Footwear Today magazine where, in this issue, Emma Louise Smith discusses the various ways retailers can help increase their footfall in this crucial quarter of the year. Also in this issue is an exclusive interview with David Foster, CEO of Grubs Boots, where we talk about his family’s fascinating heritage in the footwear industry and the launch of the company’s latest kids’ boot range.
