icrolease and Electro Rent in Europe have begun integrating
their European operations. The two
combination will mean better service and support to customers, as well as access to a greater pool of equipment for immediate availability as well as increased technical expertise.
In collaboration the new group
will have combined equipment assets worth over $1.1 billion, said to make its inventory the largest in the industry. With a team of highly technical experts covering all aspects of engineering, along with lease and asset management specialists, Electro Rent Corporation advises it will be able to service a wider range of customers and solve the biggest technical and financial test and measurement challenges.
As well as benefiting customers,
this combination will also serve employees and partners who will benefit from the global investment. “We will be able to better serve our markets with an expanded equipment fleet and broader geographical coverage”, said Peter Collingwood, CEO EMEA, Electro Rent Corporation… “This will ensure we have excellent availability and higher levels of technical service.”

LOPEC 2019 TO HOST ALL THINGS PRINTED ELECTRONICS IN MUNICH
LOPEC, International Exhibition and Conference for the printed electronics industry, will take place in Munich, Germany, during March 2019. It will be the 11th time that LOPEC has been staged. The two-day exhibition (March 20 to 21) and three-day conference (March 19–21) will provide show attendees and conference delegates with the best opportunity to keep abreast of all the latest technology and business developments this important technology sector has to offer. From OLEDs in vehicles to the smart packaging of medicines,
LOPEC covers the entire value chain – from research and materials development to production equipment and specific applications. With a wide-ranging exhibition and conference program, the show not only targets current users but also representatives of all sectors and industries that want to
increase their competitiveness using printed electronics. The automotive, pharmaceutical and sports industries are
major users of printed electronics and many examples of how they are using this exciting technology will be on display in the exhibition. Many key industry players have already registered to exhibit at the 2019 event, including Bosch Rexroth, Conductive Transfers Ltd, ContiTech Elastomer-Beschichtungen GmbH, DuPont Teijin Films UK, NovaCentrix, RK PrintCoat Instruments Ltd, Schott AG and Siemens AG. The LOPEC 2019 international conference will present around 200 conference papers with speakers from many different countries.

CML CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF INNOVATION AND IC SUPPLY
T
here are literally hundreds of design decisions to be made including sourcing the right components, which is why a good relationship with your distributor is vital, as explored on p8.
Advanced rail interconnects are providing true modularity and enabling power, signal and data in a single circular connector on p12.
The latest dual-core digital signal controllers are speeding development for design engineering teams on p14. Removable USB keys are still a favourite for data transfer, find out why on p17, plus more of the latest industry news. Michelle Winny Editor

For CML Microcircuits 2018 saw the completion of its 50th year supplying the electronics industry with high quality integrated circuits targeting communication applications. As a fabless semiconductor company, CML Microcircuits has been a pioneer in exploiting what was originally a very new concept of integrated circuitry to produce what today we would call a System on a Chip or Application Specific Standard Part (ASSP). Through close collaboration with one of the UK’s semiconductor foundries, CML’s founders were able to identify and respond to a need for a more efficient way of meeting the growing demand for voice and data communications. The company has since come to
include RF frontend and baseband technology to its portfolio, addressing analogue, digital and mixed-signal solutions for voice and data radio. The emergence of Software Defined Radio (SDR) presented CML with the
opportunity to apply its expertise to develop its flexible and proprietary platform, FirmASIC, which now forms the basis of many of its ASSPs and provides the company with a competitive advantage. “Our business strategy means we are not dependent on one, single large market or customer; instead we address many applications where high performance narrowband technology is an enabler. This focus has allowed CML to build a high level of in-house expertise and, even though we remain fabless, all of our IP is developed by us, and every single one of our devices is tested on our premises by our own engineers, which is why we’re able to deliver on our promise of high quality solutions,” said Chris Gurry, group managing director. The majority of CML’s solutions are based on Silicon Germanium substrates but, in the future, CML intends to invest in exploiting the full potential of RF on silicon, which will open up new opportunities in existing and emerging markets around the world.

Anglia advises it is adding RoHS 3 compliance information to its extensive documentation offered on Anglia Live. Anglia is also working closely with suppliers to ensure that its inventory will be compliant by the time the RoHS 3 directive comes in to force on 22nd July 2019. RoHS 3 was announced in 2016 and expands the list of prohibited substances from six to ten by adding four new types of phthalates. Manufacturers have until the 22nd July 2019 to meet these provisions. Although it is an EU directive, it has been widely adopted in many other regions across the globe and will still apply to the UK industry post Brexit.

3W and 5W models have been added by CUI’s Power Group to its line of low power, encapsulated ac-dc power supplies. Available in board mount, chassis mount, wire lead, and DIN rail configurations, the single output PSK‑S3 and PSK‑S5B series are housed in compact packages measuring as small as 1.46 x 0.97 x 0.71 inches (37 x 24.5 x 18mm), which are ideal for space-constrained low power ITE, industrial control, automation, and consumer electronics applications. Designed for easy installation, the wire lead PSK‑S3‑L and PSK‑S5B‑L series, chassis mount PSK‑S3‑T and PSK‑S5B‑T series, and DIN rail mount PSK‑S3‑DIN and PSK‑S5B‑DIN series enable simpler design implementation.
