SUPERCAPACITORS FOR AUTOMOTIVE USE


KEMET has announced the FMD and FU0H series of high-performance supercapacitors for automotive electronics. These series deliver 1,000 hours at 85°C/85% RH-rated voltage and operational temperature ranging from-40°C to 85°C. The FMD series offers a lifetime with up to 4,000 hours. These supercapacitors are qualified to an


automotive testing protocol and are said to be ideal for automotive applications needing amain power systembackup during a power loss, such as ADAS, autonomous vehicles, and central gateway ECUs. Supercapacitors are ideal for maintaining themain power system’s real-time clock or volatilememory when it is removed, such as during a power failure or when themain power system’s battery has been removed for replacement. Additionally, these supercapacitors offer power backup in equipment ranging from IoT devices, smartmeters,medical devices, and industrial computing. KEMET’s miniature supercapacitors use a


proprietary aqueous electrolyte solution that provides high durability against liquid leakage, vibrations, and thermal shock, thus high reliability in harsh environments. Aqueous electrolytes are highly conductive, have a low environmental impact, and are non-toxic and non-flammable. Unlike a battery, supercapacitors store and release energy quickly through physical adsorption and the ions desorption in the electrolyte between its electrodes.

COMPACT AC-DC POWER SUPPLIES


New from XP Power are two compact single phase 1.5kW AC-DC power supplies that offer programmable constant voltage (CV) and constant current (CC) operation with analogue and digital interfaces for user control. These use an efficient


resonant zero-volt switching (ZVS) topology and are suitable for equipment manufacturers in a wide range of industries including industrial, process control, printing, medical, semiconductor fabrication, water treatment and test /measurement. Applications includemedical imaging and patient treatment/ diagnostics, etch and deposition in semiconductor fabrication, battery charging, robotics, and lasers. Other applications such as industrial printing, electroplating, cathodic protection, LED heating/ curing, water purification and hydrogen generation would also benefit fromthe new units. The in-built digital control allows users to


rapidly configure (and re-configure) the unit for any application using software settings. Measuring just 11.0” x 4.2” x 1.64” (279.4mm x 106.7mm x 41.7mm), HPA1K5 units are said to occupy significantly less space than typical 1.5kW-rated power supplies, saving space and weight. Despite their small size, HPA1K5 units are fully featured and offer efficient operation, up to 93% and fast slew rates for instrumentation applications. These have an input range of 80 –


264VAC, nominal single output voltages of 24VDC and 48VDC are available as standard, and these can be programmed up to 105%of nominal. The current output can be programmed to 110%of nominal. An additional 5V/2A standby supply is always on if themains supply is present.

NEW MULTIPLEXERS OFFER EASY CONNECTIVITY


New to Eaton’s MTL830 range of multiplexers for Zone 0 hazardous area temperature measurement applications, the next generation MTL838C-MBT temperature multiplexer receiver features an integral Ethernet port that makes connectivity easier and simpler. Using MODBUS TCP, the MTL838C-MBT temperature multiplexer offers an intelligent solution to


process monitoring, improving productivity through simpler system integration to modern automation systems and enabling cloud connectivity for the analysis of big data and temperature trends. The MTL838C-MBT is also PC-configurable, making initial set-up and subsequent adjustments – for example, at product changeover – easy to achieve. By using two transmitters and one MTL838C receiver, an Eaton multiplexer system can communicate the status of up to 32 inputs. TheMTL831Cmultiplexer transmitter transposes the analogue signals frommultiple temperature


sensors within a hazardous area into digital data, which is then communicated through theMTL838C- MBT receiver to the host PLC, PC or DCS via a standard Ethernet network. TheMTL830C can transmit over distances of up to 1kmin IS applications and 2kmin non IS applications.

For lifting platforms and work platforms, KABELSCHLEPP Metool offers the TKK series – dirt-repellent, solid plastic cable carriers that are ideal for use in small installation spaces. Also available is the TKSR95 – a steel cable carrier that was also developed for lifting equipment – as well as special versions for reliable routing and separation of rigid hydraulic hoses and electric cables in extending stabilisation legs for commercial vehicles. The TKK cable carriers are extremely robust,


lightweight and compact, and have extensive unsupported length. The compact arrangement in a boom allows for great extension lengths while the high torsional rigidity and lateral stability ensure straight running. The optimised divider design additionally provides efficient protection for cables and hoses with precise inner distribution. The cable carriers have very short end connectors and the dirt-repellent design of the link plates offers particularly effective protection against contamination during use. heights from 142 to 240mm, inner widths from 39 to 99mm and bending radii from 46 to 95 mm; the pitch and inner height are both 39mm. The cable carrier can be used unsupported or gliding and supports speeds of up to 3m/s, accelerations of up to 9m/s2

lengths of up to 120m with a maximum additional load of 10kg/m. The cable carrier is available with two stay variants: the TKK39.020 with a sturdy, enclosed frame, which is suitable for protecting hydraulic hoses for example, and the TKK39.040 with hinged crossbars that can be opened at any position inside for easy access to cables and hoses during inspection and maintenance.
